Carra        Skrtel              Agger     Dossena

Gerrard      Masch        Alonso        Barry

                  Keane     Torres

Not really a weakness anywhere in that team !

well i would change three things - move carra back to the middle and put arbeloa at right back - carra isnt good enough going forward from thre and carra is our best cb .

barry as left mid ??? no pace for there what so ever

and gerrard out right ? he i better in the middle . if we get barry and i still hope we dont then alonso must be sold and barry in the centre with masher and gearrd in front of those with kuyt/keane/babel wider areas

I give up

Aston Villa sources have denied reports of a supposed £19m deal in place for Gareth Barry to finally move to Liverpool.

The 27-year-old England midfielder’s protracted move to Anfield was thought to have reached a successful conclusion when lunchtime reports said that Villa have accepted the Reds’ cash plus player offer with right-back Steve Finnan heading to Villa Park.

However, Express and Star is claiming that Villa have denied fresh reports of a breakthrough in the Barry transfer stand off.

“Villa Park sources and members of the Barry camp are now distancing themselves from the latest rumours in the long-running saga,” says the report.

Arsenal are also linked with Barry, who however has his heart set on moving to Anfield.

A speedy winger would be a great pick-up for us, but while Pennant provides that pace, we need someone with footballing intelligence and a better ball into the area. Alas, it would be good to speed up the overall pace of the squad, not necessairly just on the wings.

I think we should also sell alonso and move barry to the middle and get a natural left winger , silva . We are reportedly getting 12 million for xabi and silva is allowed to leave for 15 million , we should be able to afford him than .

Or, we could keep Alonso, f*ck Barry off, buy Silva, and still have £12m-odd for other players as well...  :idea

Arbeloa is supposedly going mate, and you complain about Barry's lack of pace for left mid and then put Kuyt in :D

This whole thing is getting very frustrating at this stage.

I said it before that because it is taking so long and is such a drawn out process, that although no fault of his own, there is serious pressure for Barry to hit the ground running if infact he does sign

more now from the bbc

Aston Villa say that Gareth Barry will be staying at the club and not moving to Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Villa claim the Reds failed to meet a deadline to sign the midfielder and now any move is off.

"During talks in the past few days, a final deadline to conclude this episode was set that all parties were aware of and agreed to," said a Villa statement.

"This deadline has now passed and so Gareth will remain with Villa."

More to follow.

It's just been on Radio 5 live.

What a waste of time all that was?

Hopefully Alonso will now stay and Barry will come next season for about half the price.

I reckon its a bad move selling Finnan.  Is Arbeloa really better than him ?  Also, I can't understand peoples enthusiasm for selling Alonso.
