feel sorry for the lad.  I'd rather see us sell some 3-4 dross players than lose one quality guy like Alonso

totally agree mate, i wouldn"t want to see alonso leave
the club either, however if raffa needs to sell, before
he buys again he knows he will get more interest & a
decent fee for alonso rather than wait for offers for
dross players (as you put it) like voronin etc.
when i saw voronin play in pre season friendlies
my thinking was is raffa trying to put him in the shop
window hoping someone makes a bid rather than not
play him & know no one will make a bid for him, it could
backfire either way, but i just hope he"s gone very soon
as my blood pressure couldn"t stand another season
knowing he get"s a game, ialso think that the fact
that up untill now the only reason pennant is still
with us, is because we have been unable to sign
another top class winger. the likes of pennant are
defo in the last chance saloon, i begrudge players
picking up fecking excellant wages week in week out
when they don"t show hunger, determination etc
when they are picked! the kewell situation said it
all for me. if they aren"t good enough or have
the right attitude, let"s get shot of them a.s.a.p

Is there any news on his transfer Igor or do you think its a dead deal now mate ?

Not sure mate , Shankslegend said today ,that rafa wants him end of story , he also suggested that the two yanks are willing to put there hands in there pockets . Can't see it myself ,to be honest mate ,i'd rather keep xabi and concentrate on getting some quality width.

I heard a while back that Rafa was to get a £20million transfer chest on the 26 of July. I couldn't believe those two clowns would put up the money either, so I presumed it was either b0llocks or maybe that we got our CL OR TV money this weekend?

I more or less agree mate, I think if its a break even deal it might just be worth doing, but as it looks like we are going to lose money on the two deals I think we should forget it, stick with Alonso and try to bring in Silva or someone like that.

I still think Rafa will pull a surprise out of the hat even if we sign Keane and Barry. I think he will bring in one more big name. I am hoping for a top creative player, but I hope for one of those every year  :D

David Silva maybe?

Van der Vaart is the one mate. I think he will be the surprise signing.

find it hard not to be envious of everton's bid for moutinho.

I can't believe that he has not been bought by a big club yet.  He was really good in the Euro's and I'd take him over Barry in an instant.  It would really be a shame if he ended up at a small club like Everton.

I think that it closes at the end of next month.

I have it on good authority that as soon as Pennent is sold we will offer 16 million + extras which will secure his services

Not sure why this didnt work the first time but anyway....

I have been informed by a reliable source that as soon as the pennent sale is done we will offer 16 Mill plus extras which Villa are expected to accept.

Might be bolox but he is usually quite good with things like this. He told me that we we going sign collymore about 6 weeks before anyone else had a clue!  He has told me others but that always sticks in my mind  :D

Liverpool have drawn a line under the summer's longest-running transfer saga after finalising a £19m deal for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry.

Fresh from concluding a £20million deal for Spurs striker Robbie Keane, the Anfield club have held further talks with Villa and The Insider understands that they have reached agreement on a £17.5m cash offer plus defender Steve Finnan.

The move is no surprise but the timing is, as Liverpool have still to sell to raise the relevant funds but know they have offers on the table for Jermaine Pennant and Yossi Benayoun.

Further interest has also been expressed in Andriy Voronin, Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso.

Benitez made public his first bid for Aston Villa midfielder Barry in May and incurred the wrath of Villa boss Martin O'Neill.

Barry then confirmed he wanted to leave and criticised O'Neill for a lack of communication.

That outburst saw the England playmaker fined and banned by the club.

Four bids from the Reds were rejected by the midlands club, who were holding out for £18m, before Arsenal reportedly became involved in the race for the England man.

The 27-year-old, who scored 36 goals in 327 appearances for Villa, was booed when he turned out for Villa in a pre-season game but the crowd appeared fully behind him when he came on as substitute in the Intertoto Cup match against Odense last Saturday

Nice one GYBS. Where is this from?
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Liverpool have finally agreed a fee for England International Gareth Barry from Aston Villa on Wednesday, which should end one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer, according to the Mail online.

Straight after signing Irish International Robbie Keane from Tottenham Hotspur in a reportedly £20million deal, the Reds have now agreed a fee of of £19million for the Villans captain , which will see Anfield full-back Steve Finnan travel the opposite way to Villa Park.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez had already had four bids turned down by Villa for Barry, but it now seems that Barry will finally make the switch to Anfield for £17.5million plus Finnan, who is valued at £1.5million by the Reds.

Premier League rivals Arsenal had been tracking the situation, but look to have lost out to Liverpool, which is where the England man had always stated was the club he wanted to join.
