The statement said: “Gareth Barry has stated in discussions with our manager that he would like to leave Aston Villa to join Liverpool, but Liverpool’s bid for the player has been rejected and Liverpool have been informed.”

Liverpool’s latest offer of £12m has been rejected out of hand, following Benitez’s opening gambit of £10m plus Steve Finnan, Jermaine Pennant and John Arne Riise. Villa are demanding a straight cash deal.

I am not amused fuck it off Rafa, forget bentley, Downing, milner and Barry and get Villa and Silva.

Villa are having a laugh 20 million for a 27 year old he's not Steven Gerrard FFS.

I knew O'Squeal was stupid, he's incredibly stupid if he thinks Barny is worth £20m. Rafa needs to wise up fast, this is rapidly turning into a farce and we don't have money to waste on a player we don't really need when we could probably get Villa for £20m - and I don't mean the entire brummie based team, although that is MORE realistic than Barny for £20m alone

I think its time to call the whole deal off and concentrate on signing someone who could actually make a BIG difference to our season, Villa , Silva, Aguero etc etc.

You maybe right there Saint, 12 million IMO is ample enough for Barry.

Maybe we should look elsewhere, that would make some people on here a bit happier at least.

There is no reason what so ever that Gerrard cant move back into midfield and play alongside Masch or xabi, even though the recent formation has worked wonders.

But we wouldnt need two holding midfielders if we signed Villa if we had Torres and Villa upfront teams would be to scared to go on the attack with two weapons of mass destruction hovering around the box

Barry is worth 10 million max and noway should we pay a penny more.

True, but is he a realistic signing though, or is just the dreams of ninkonpoops like you and me ?

If they're 20 mill for the lad then Rafa is partly to blame. He's done nothing but pi..s..s MON off with all the public comments about Barry to the press and it didn't exactly help with Gerrard getting his oar in last week. All it's done is drive up the price :no

No dreams very realistic keep Alonso, then we have sufficent cover in midfield with plessis, Masch, Gerrard, and Lucas.

Get rid of Pennant, Benayoun, Crouch, Voronin, Carson, Riise Kewell is off the wage bill no more 75 grand a week being paid to that sh!tehawk.

And say the yanks have given Rafa atleast 20 million if we sold these players then there is no reason why we shouldnt buy Villa, Silva or another world class winger.

Quality not quantity and start bringing some of the ressies through like Nemeth.
