Can't believe there are no mancs or Liverpool players in the top 5

I can. Us because it would have to be Gerrard or Mascherano, Alonso has missed about a third or more of our games and add to that rotation and few players have had the chances to create the chances.

No great surprise two villa players are up there, small squad and something like third top scorers in the league through a recent burst of goals. You're probably right regards the mancs though, top scorers and not nearly as prone to resting players as us.

Of those five I'd question how Kalou is in there, on instinct I'd say all but him would be in their XIs virtually every week. I think he made 50 appearances last season, but a lot of those could well have been off the bench.

Now, THAT'S the best suggestion I've seen in this thread....

I was actually thinking that if Barry is to be our MAJOR target of the closed season, it could be a good thing. Here's why.

Now I think and believe that if Hicks said to Rafa "listen here Roffa, you got yourself ten million of those English pounds to spend in the Summer, now go win me the British Premiership Golden Soccer Ball" the manager would chuck it in and walk away sharpish as it would be an impossible task in all probability, even if he doesn't "style" it  :p . The thing is though, Rafa hasn't which means one of three things to my mind anyway.

1. Rafa actually thinks that by purchasing Barry, Deggen and a couple of other freebies from around Europe we can bridge the gap on the top three. He, if this theory is to be believed, has well and truly seen the light and believes a non-rotational stance will be enough to make up the deficit on the other three teams. FWIW I think it is unlikely he thinks like that (at least the bit about making up the gap, I have no doubts we will see considerably less rotation next season).

2. The whole story is utter b0ll0cks and actually Hicks plans to bankroll Rafa on a huge spending spree this Summer.

3. Rafa is just biding his time knowing full well (and lets face it if anybody knows it'll be him) that DIC are going to be in charge soon, and they will bankroll him.

I suppose there is the possibility that nuymber four could be that he isn't prepared to walk until they pay up his contract, but for now I'll dismiss that as a no-no. My moneys actually on number three.

BBC:

Barry 'undervalued' by Liverpool

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill insists Liverpool have undervalued skipper Gareth Barry at £10m.

O'Neill and Barry will hold talks early next week after Liverpool made a players-plus-cash offer for the highly-rated England midfielder.

"Is Barry undervalued at £10m? Absolutely, without question," said O'Neill. "He is playing for England."

O'Neill also expressed his determination to keep the 27-year-old at Villa Park.

"Liverpool talked about a £10m bid, which was some cash and some unnamed players," added O'Neill.

"That is very presumptuous of them, that the players they might be talking about, are the ones you would want - that is why I dismissed the whole thing.

"The whole story seems to have grown arms and legs and seems to be saying 'whatever Liverpool are asking for, they will get' but I don't see that as being the case.

"That is not to say we want to give a certain valuation and then, if Liverpool come up with it, we will do business. That is not what we want to do at all."

----

so basically he's publiclly saying... how much do you actually want him? - prove to him you how much you want him...

We should not pay more than 10M for him.

Quite frankly I think 8M plus Riise is more than reasonable an offer.

Had to laugh when I read in todays newspaper, what O'Neill said in an interview about the 10m offer for Gareth Barry

"Liverpool's offer would be like me bidding 20m for Lionel Messi...."

:D  :D  :D   I didn't think GB was worth more than 10m

Id say he was about a 8 Reg. Hopefully playin with the likes of Gerrard Torres etc will bring the best out of him like it has with Torres.

We don't want or need your money, Pennant, Crouch, Riise or any more of your cast offs/reserve teams players. So look for other targets your attention is unwanted. We had all this with the Mancs and Dwight Yorke, difference is we don't we need to sell. If Barry wants to go, he should be made to rot in the reserves for the last two years of his contract. Barry should remember what MoN has done for him. MoN going to be spending £40 million in the summer :(
