Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Some good play in the game last night, but it has to be countered by the fact that this was Sunday League opposition. Let's not get too carried away. It was the first time I've seen Dossena in the flesh....he kinda reminds me of The Hunchback of Notre Dame or someone similar from one of my kids DVD's...

Really pi$$ed off here in work - YouTube is blocked and I haven't seen any of the goals from the Rangers game. Anyone got suggestions on where else they can be found ? I vaguely remember Dailymotion or something similar having all the goals in the past but can't find 'em now....

Not quite. They are a regular in the UEFA cup and in 2006 got dumped out of the CL at the group stage. I would say almost on a par with Rangers, definitely better than the pre-seasons we've had so far (with the exception of Villareal)

This Norwegian outfit is midtable to be sure but what's impressive to me is that they are in the midst of their season while our lads are still gaining fitness and learning each other's names.  To stick four past them and a Rangers side that had already kicked a ball in anger (and who would be well up for playing some English competition) on each side's own patch is nothing to be sneezed at.  To have a new lad like Ngog gaining confidence, to have a fringe player like Yossi putting goals in, to have Torres up and running after only a brief rest and to have Alonso looking hungry rather than mardy despite all that's gone on to sour his summer is excellent stuff indeed.  Now, if we can just get Keane on the scoresheet against Lazio, I think we're in prime position to kick the season off strongly. :nod

I was really concerned that Alonso may be in a bit of a strop or feeling really low on confidence after the summer but once again I think he has shown pre-season what a true pro he is.  He looks well up for it.

I really hope we keep hold of him as when in form he is trully world class.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Liverpool wait on injured Gerrard

Liverpool could be without captain Steve Gerrard for next week's Champions League qualifier against Standard Liege after he was injured on Tuesday.

Gerrard, 28, limped off with a thigh strain in the first half of Liverpool's 4-1 friendly win against Valerenga.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is hopeful Gerrard will be fit to travel to Belgium for the 12 August fixture.

"It is a thigh strain. We need to wait but it could be one week," the Spaniard told Liverpool's official website.

Final preparations tonight as Lazio visit Anfield in Liverpool's last pre-season game before the real business of the Champions League qualifiers start next week in Belgium.

A last opportunity to impress the gaffer for some of the squad members, who will be attempting to maintain a fairly strong run of results of late...with one eye on the arduous campaign ahead, and the abscence of two or three key figures to the Olympics. Who if any of them will forge their way into contention for a first team slot. Or at the very least, consideration for a berth on the extended subs bench..

Discussion about tonights game in here: 8pm LFC.tv.
