Kuyt was moved from up top to right midfield for a good reason, he's a :censored:

poor striker. His fantastic attitude and work rate is the only thing keeping him at the club. Good utility player though. We won't have that problem with Keane, he will score plenty.

Mate, do you not understand the football transfer market and why the club has had to pay this sort of money for the player? It's very similar to the Barry situation. Keane was Tottenham's best player last season and has been their best over the last 3-4 seasons. Spurs did not want to sell him so the only way to get him is to pay the money. Clubs do not sell their best players on the cheap and i'm wondering who you could have bought for the £10 million you would have been willing to pay? Evidently that wouldn't have been enough for Andy Johnson (who isn't good enough) and i'm not sure who else you can find for TK Max money?

KEANE EYES PREMIER LEAGUE MEDAL

Robbie Keane has spoken of his determination to fire Liverpool to a first league championship since 1990.

The new number seven is desperate to turn his solitary club medal – collected when Spurs beat Chelsea in the League Cup final last term - into a glittering collection here at Liverpool.

Asked at his unveiling this morning if he thought a title-winner's medal was realistic, Keane replied: "I certainly do think we can challenge Manchester United and Chelsea.

"If you look at the squad of players that were already here, along with the addition of a few more, then there is no reason we shouldn't be challenging for the Premier League and other trophies.

"Liverpool is a massive, massive club and people expect this of us. The fans expect it.

"I have come here to win things."

The lifelong Red was just nine years old last time the club won the league back at a time when he slept under Liverpool bedsheets and walked around in his club tracksuit.

Keane added: "I was a little bit too young to fully remember the last title. Hopefully I can contribute to changing that as part of this team. Obviously that would be great for the people of Liverpool.

"My whole family are Liverpool fans. I remember every Christmas asking for jerseys and tracksuits – it's great now that I get the tracksuits for free!"

Meanwhile, reporters quizzed the new boy on how he would deal with squad rotation.

Keane responded: "If you want to be the best, you have to have a big squad. In the last few seasons my managers have done it – Juande Ramos and Martin Jol. I still had some great seasons there.

"It is up to the manager what he wants to do but I am here for the team – not Robbie Keane."

Spurs kept buying strikes for big money like Berbatov and Bent but none were as prolific as Keane. I think he is exactly the sort of player we needed. Torres will be marked heavily this season, I cannot see him scoring 30 goals again...BUT.....with Keane about defences know they can't ignore him and either he'll score teh deficit or free Torres to do his thing. It's a gret signing, maybe about 5 million too much but we've finally got a strike partnership which I can see scoring goals like Fowler and Owen at their peak.

Well if he was worth what spudz sold him for they wouldn't have sold him, even though he was not for sale as I recall when they lodged a complaint

. Was he worth it? I would price him around £12m-£15m, given his age and allowing for the fact I don't base it too much on comparisons with other players. After all Defoe went for what £7m, Crouch £11m and Keane £20m - is Keane worth the other two combined?

BUT if we win the title I'm sure people will say it's because we signed Keane, blah blah blah. IF we win the title I won't care, that is the objective not to save money and scrimp. Why I, and others, worry about the fees is because you want the best you can get for your money, so spending £18m on a CM you could put towards a striker for £20m-£25m isn't necessarily best use. He's a good player, no doubt, but how many seasons before an injury or two starts people down the line of "past it" ?

I think he is a decent acquisition, paid over the odds for him and perhaps could have got better value for money for a Villa. Before anyone (else) says Villa is unproven in the Premiership, so was Torres and you wouldn't now want us not to have signed him on that basis.................... I had a quick look at Keane's stats from 2006/7 (source is slooooooooow or I'd post a few more) and he scored 22 goals in 44 games, must have been the season they played just 40 domestic games (the minimum)

So Keane is already 28, Villa won't be 27 for a few more months yet. I'm not sure anyone really knows what Villa would have cost, I know given a straight choice I'd go for Villa - probably anything up to £5m more. The problem I can see with Keane over Villa is selling, I doubt we'll get anything like the fee we paid for Keane if we sell a la Bellamy. Villa's tag will hold reasonably for a season or two, especially after the Euros. So in that sense I reckon we've signed a player with a greater rate of depreciation

yeah but how long would we of kept villa for ? for the price you would expect to pay for him maybe 35 mil which would be about right then he is going to stay for at least 3-4 season so by that time would be 32 ish so wouldnt be able to sell him for much - keane is prob with us now till end of career

You know there is another side to the story and that is that the glass is half full (at least untill the end of next season)
