Pacheco is definitely one to look out for, if he can develop physically I think we could be on to one. He looks sound technically and his movement looks encouraging. It's still early days though and the oppo were categorically sh!t.

Exactly what I said, more or less, on a general forum. The opposition were poor, his finishing wasn't much better and he will have to up that performance when the opposition are better. We had the look of Arsenal at time, trying to thread the ball through or dribble through the defence. Did anyone see or count any crosses from the FBs? Supposedly that is our width, according to reports of Rafa's views

Yeh, my gut instinct is we're fecked if we think Degen's our answer to the right. Pace, power, average technique, but not much else. Defensively clueless.

That's just my instinct having only seen bits of him. It's early days but something doesn't seem right. Even when I saw his face in the press conference he looked a bit thick, one of them you think 'oh sh!t, he hasn't a clue'.

I've hammered the lad and he hasn't even played a competitive game yet  :D

Remember skrtel's debut ? He was very poor in that game and cost us the opening two goals if i remember it was a cup game , after those 2 games i think skrtel recovered superbly and was immense . Degen has been out for some time and just came back for injury , maybe a couple more games than we will get a clearer picture if he can survive in the premier league . Insua was also very rusty but this has been the only poor game the lad has had ever since playing for the first team . We've got a couple more friendlies and we should start seeing more first team players starting games soon

Yeh, I remember Skrtel's debut, he was poor but I thought that was more down to nerves than anything else - I didn't doubt he'd accustomise and be at least a reasonably good player (he played in a very successful Zenith team and plenty of good clubs were after him). Degen, of the little I've seen in these friendly games, looks like a bit of a headless chicken, and this in tandom with the fact that he was a free and has absolutely no record of any type of success (at the age of 25, and with seemingly no other good clubs after him before we signed him), give me the impression he may turn out to be a disappointment.

I hope to f.uck these initial instincts can be proven vastly wrong though.

We don't need players looking to "survive", we need players that are an improvement on what we have and had last season. It would be foolish to read too much into friendlies anyway, whether a player excels or fails, like judging Crouch's international ability on a hat-trick against Jamaica

I know its early but ................... Degen cannot defend for toffee, God I sincerely hope he isnt Finnans long term replcement. He is pretty lightweight and the likes of your Sunderlands and your Stokes will have a field day shoving this lad a round. I dont know whether he his genuinely disinterested in defending or is simply inept at it. But when matey crossed that ball over, and old chap headed back accross for their goal, there wasnt even a challenge on the bloke. I could of farted stronger than that ! He will get mullard in the Prem, and was caught the wrong side once or twice.

Degen reminds my of the typical Under-11's kid, the one were the manager has asked him to play fullback, but deep down the kid wants to be a striker and just gung-ho forward for it. Fair enough for an U-11's, but not a proffesional, he looks eager to help out in the wrong third to me and he is a Concern, I hope he doesnt play the opener at sunderland.

As for the rest of the team, the younger lads especially. They look good in their own rights (as a ressy) but IMO not one of them looks ready to become a first squad member. I dont think Plessis, Leto and Insua are ready or ill ever be. I was impressed by Plessis performance last season against Arsenal he did look good but he isnt any better in the DM department than what we've already got, infact your Maschas and your Alonsos I think are still on another playing field totally, like I said there good reserves but I dont think they're good enough to make the grade just yet, if atall.

Pacheco at 17 does look a prospect, if he can blossom into the player he is showing glimpse's of in the next year or two. Then he'll be definately worth a place in the first squad, and could easily take Voronins place :p

Players like Voronin, Benayoun, Pennant, Aurelio should go IMO they're simply not good enough and I think Degen could be added to that list   I think Rafa has brought another dud.

exactly friendlies don't really tell the whole picture , remember last season voronin during pre season? i thought we ahd signed a quality striker , how wrong was i . I think degen will come good and i'll give my take on him when i see him in a proper game in a red shirt against a premier league opposition

In fairness to Voronin he did score 4 goals in his first 10 competitive games, faded after that and with his injury. I'm sure someone will moan about that stat, well ferk whoever does. Some would much rather slate Voronin in ignorance than cut him some slack

Time will tell regards the new signings and the kids, you can only comment on what you've seen and take into account that it's a friendly.

DOSSENA MAKES BOW AGAINST KRAKOW

Paul Hassall in the Stade St-Leonard in Fribourg 19 July 2008

Andrea Dossena will make his Liverpool debut tonight as the Reds look to maintain their 100 per cent pre-season record against Wisla Krakow.
The Italian international will link up with Sebastian Leto down the left while Jamie Carragher will again skipper the side in the absence of the injured Steven Gerrard.

Dutch starlet Ryan Babel is also included in the starting XI and will link up with Andriy Voronin in attack.

The Liverpool team in full: Cavalieri, Darby, Dossena, Agger, Carragher, Plessis, Lucas, Leto, Benayoun, Babel, Voronin. Subs: Martin, Hyypia, Skrtel, Pacheco, Aurelio, Pennant, Kuyt, Mascherano, Insua, Spearing, Hobbs.
