Rafael Benitez took of the strikers because they were tired and giving the ball away in the 2nd half... its the first game thigs will improve... but the Club have to put there money where their mouths are ..

With a new stadium to build and no new cash injection, i think that will be hard...

Yes, they WERE tired.
Rafa actually referred to the latest CL match while Spurs had some more breaks before the match, he only didn't want blame anything
And yes, it will always be some issues unless we quickly grab some new bloods.

agree with some of u here, maybe its time to field Diouf..he cant be worse than brainless cinama. Anyway, Diouf is a striker and he got enuf attributes to play as striker(not winger) Rafa, pls save your money on strikers, get classy midfielders

Its the first game, most of them are still not as fit as they would like. We got a point didn't we? The team and the coach still need time to know what to expect from others. Take it easy m8. As for Rafa, I think the main reason why he sit on one goal is because he wants to get the first win out of the way. You are leading 1-0 away and what would you do if you are a coach? I'm sure I would be more defensive than offensive in that situation. If we had attacked as you guys are suggesting and lost, you guys would be saying we should have be more defensive than going to the offense. You can't go both ways.

I thought Finnan on the right side is a makeshift at best because he kept giving the ball away. Kewell did not play much either in the first half and started to play better in the second half.

We really need a more creative midfielder and also a real right sided one. Hope the Nunez guy (did I get his name right?) from Madrid who ia the makeweight in the Owen transfer is better. Also, we are seriously short on quality strikers after Cisse and Baros. Get Diouf back?

Dudek let in a goal on his inside at a narrow angle. Should have done better. I think his game has dropped quite a bit since 2002 when he first arrived. Josemi did well, so did Hyppia in particular and also Carra in the centre.

Is it my imagination or does the players/team actually play a better passing game than under the previous reign? Here's to a better next game...and the ones after that.

if they are tired in just 60 mins of play, maybe they should work harder on their fitness.

ah just cut them some slack -- the just got back from over here last week and trust me if that flight has the same effect on them as me then they were trash until last weekend -- then they had a big game at arni's place, then the mo affair -- man its good that they didn't fall flat on their faces

but they need to improve and they will -- happy days are a commin

1 final thought -- do i have to burn my #10 jerseys??? its considered tres gauch to were a hockey jersey after the guy leaves ( unless retirement causes it))

Simplistic maybe, but we need a stronger attacking style of midfielder right now . If you like , imagine two players like SG ,pushing the ball forward.  Hell, Pongo might even look good. He did look a little ratty today, chasing shadows and loosing his rag.

We need an attacking  midfielder more than a striker. :upside:

shut up A.B you nonce, Owen aint god, and missed a load of chances last season and about 3 penalties!  Baros's shot that was blocked wasnt his fault.
He did Ok and is probably not used to being picked every game!
give him a feckin chance.

the strikers need support from midfield and i feel hamann and Finnan should be shown the door and replaced there, maybe alonso and garcia, and another striker as pongolle is not ready yet.

I am giving him a chance, how many chances is he going to get until he scores? He's job is quite simple, put the ball into the back of the net. Not drible the ball or lose the ball to the opponent.

decent performance today, 1-1 isn't a bad result vaway to spurs where our record is poor.
Nice to see Cisse grab a goal on his EPL debut. Thought we were pretty good in the first half, good passing, kept possession well and deserved the lead at HT. Second half was not as good, but that can be expected as Tottenham were pushing forward to get the equaliser and were at home.
Decent start to the season, still work to be done , and need at least a new RM, Finnan was relatively quiet.
Hopefully we have a win at Anfield againts City. :)
