Yeah he was very good at going forward, but we should wait and see how he does against a team that can actually attack.   He does look like he has potentially to be a very good attacking fullback though, his powerful runs impressed me.

Arbeloa will play the big games and hard away games, Degen will play the rest i recon.

That Pacheco kid looks a prospect.

I think the "Nunez" and "headless chicken" comments about Degen were pretty much spot on :D  Alas we have to give him a chance though.

Nice goal from Yossi too.

Pacheco looks awesome i think in afew years hell be great playing behind torres the way he finds those little through balls, hes like litneman & owen rolled into 1 a real star in the making

impressed with degen but still need 2 c what hes like defending, nice 2 c lucas in a more advanced roll with plessis just behind him

Great 2 c Agger back typical penetrating passes 2 the front line

all in all very impressed

Ok, Degen had some decent runs forward, and for knowing him quite a lot (because I'm Swiss), the 'headless chicken' thing is completely true. Moreover he forgets his defensive role 99% of the time.

I'm afraid he can only be used against very weak sides with no real offensive threats. Otherwise, it will be really too easy for the opposition to counter-attack on our right flank.

Hope I'm wrong...

But do we? Finnan can push forward, Arbeloa has done that before and Aurelio. The biggest concern might be can any of our FBs defend? (to a good enough standard) I'm all for backing the team, but given a choice would people choose to have weak links in the starting XI? Out of sight, out of mind. Maybe that's why Pennant feels he needs a beard, that way someone might notice him!

Windy afternoon not the best day for football. Preseason game, lots of mistakes.

The game was a mix between youngsters and first teamers. It was a chance for first teamers like Pennant, Aurelio, Lucas, Agger, Benayoun etc, to tell Rafa "I should be a very regular player next season".

In this lot, I liked Agger most as a whole despite the brilliant piece of touch that Benayoun showed in his goal. Agger came from the back well, commanded to his team mates, and he reminded me how much we missed him last season.

It was an opportunity for the youngsters to tell Rafa, "you can count on me" in the first team this season.

The best among the youngsters were Plessis and Pacheco who played well (Plessis what a height he has), but they need games and I'm not sure whether we'll have much games for them in the first team *this* season. Insua was very inaccurate and nervous, but this was just a preseason game.  Spearing, Darby seem to inmature to count on them this season.

Degen? well, he's body allows him to adapt to the pace and tempo of the premiership but we'll have to see whether his crossed balls and the quality of his runs are top football. Too early for that.

Glad to see Aurelio back. The Kewell experience shows us we cannot wait forever a player, but now Dossena is here, I hope Aurelio's just fit this season. Because if he is, he can be very important for us.

was a nothing match buta well taken goal by benayoun.....can't really tell much about degen yet but he didn't do much wrong in my eyes......id have liked us to break down the opposition better than we did, cos we gonna face days like that this season like every season where the other team aren't gonna threaten much but need to be taken out before they sneak a result out of nowhere....

Good run out by the reds cause thats all it was imo. Top training session.

I laughed most of the day at Samies hair band..

Nice to see the little fat Sam though back were he belongs it looked just right to see him an Raffa together on the line.

Fantastic to see Agger back aswell made some nice runs and movement out of defense and pushed them up a bit more .

Iwont comment on the newbies as this was not a game to tell what is what.

Anyone think Plessis can break into the 1st team?

So glad to see Agger back. We missed him last season.

PLessis should be considered as a back up for the first team, him and Pecheco impressed me highly (I watch them in the reserves 99% of the time aswell - God bless the Liverpool channel)

Im torn in two minds about this Degen fella, He has the body, pace and strength to suceed in the PL BUT, and its a big but, he doesnt look like he could take titus bramble on at the moment, everytime he went forward yesterday he just kinda ran into the defender instead of knocking it past him and running.  Also there is NO WAY he should be considered a defender, he will hopefully be used as a right winger, his defensive capabilities looked shabby yesterday, in fact, he didnt really do any defending, didnt like running back.

However this was a pre season game, maybe Rafa just told him to "show me what you can do going forward", or at least I hope thats what hes said :D

he was being deployed as a wingback and later they switched to 4-4-2 with Martin Kelly playing right back and he was playing right midfield
