If he improves the health of our squad overall and is one for the future, then it's an astute signing from Rafa. Leave it a few more years, and he could be going for 14 million. Who knows. Sure Phil Tompson thought Ronaldo wasn't worth 4 million but yet Rafa is wasting more  money on a promising talented youngster?

Welcome to Liverpool, lad. Hope you do well here!

precisely Emerald... it seems on here that whatever the manager does it's always a bad decision... it is clear that benitez is doing this because we got absolutely no money... if this prospect can develop into a decent player we can sell him for profit... if he becomes good enough for liverpool he is surely an asset worth millions... this deal should be praised for us beating off the competition to sign a talented youngster, not criticised....

No problem with investing for the future but the way football is today will Rafa still be around to see these prospects fulfill his expectations ? .
A new manager anytime in the in the next three years could see all of these "ones for the future" binned.

Echoes of Houlier.    :(

To be honest I didn't know of Javier Mascherano until he came to Liverpool. And I wasn't impressed when we first signed him as we had countless useless players in the 06-07 season. You never know a player until you see him play.

Jesus whats wrong with buying players 4 the future?

& who said it was gonna effect r transfer budget 4 first teamers?

all this proves 2 me is that benitez is true 2 his words that hes building something at liverpool that will c us in good nick 4 many many years 2 come

would u rather us do a bolton & buy proven players in the 29-35 age group all the time?

You're right. Mascherano is the sole reason everyone watches football. He's world class, which is why I honestly admitted I didn't know him. I might not know as much as you lot about football, but I know a lot more than you expect me to know.
