REDS SWOOP FOR DANISH STARLET
Steve Hunter 07 July 2008
Liverpool have signed promising Danish youth international striker Nikola Saric on a three year deal.
The 17-year-old, who was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, is an Under-18 international for Denmark.

The former Herfolge player was recently on trial with SC Heerenveen at the Otten Cup tournament, hosted by PSV Eindhoven.

In 2007 Saric was named Denmark's Under-17 Player of the Year.

I know fúck all about the player.

But with 17-18 you must start having first team football, despite it's too early to give regular football on a top club.

But with Torres playing regularly a young startlet can be a good option for second halves and not that important games.

Nikola Saric (born 6 January 1991) is a Danish footballer of Serbian and Croatian origin. He currently plays for Liverpool, having previously played for Herfølge.[1] He has also represented Denmark at youth level.

Saric's signing to Liverpool prompted substantial news coverage. Tottenham, Barcelona and Charlton all attempted to sign Saric, resulting in a bidding war. It was reported they settled on a 3-year £500,000 contract.[2] The S*n called him "one of the top young forwards in Europe"[3] and the Liverpool Daily Post called him "one of Europe’s most promising young strikers."[4] In 2007, Saric was voted by the Danish Football Association to be their 2007 U17 Player of the Year.

hmm we'll see

If i am not mistaken Baros had similar interest from clubs

Hmmmm

I thought our youth set up was ok. If this lad is going to be truely world class and makes a big break into the first team within the next couple of years then this is great, however my initial thought is that are just wasting money at this point in time.

Our priority should be resourcing our first team?

This transfer period is becoming a little fustrating but maybe there is still time.

Too late to track back. The police have already noted "The Judge" in their black list.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has beaten off strong competition from a number of clubs to sign Danish teenage striker Nikola Saric on a three-year-deal.

The 17-year-old former Herfolge player was thought to interest clubs such as Barcelona and Spurs.

But Benitez has won the race for the player, who was recently on trial with SC Heerenveen at the Otten Cup tournament, hosted by PSV Eindhoven.

Saric told Herfolge's official website: "Of course, I want to join Liverpool FC.

"I will get to train with the big names over there and develop in the reserves.

"It is a tremendous chance for me and I am very happy.

"Since I feel the time is right and that I am mature enough for a new challenge, we have been waiting for the right club to come with an offer."

Herfolge sports director Per Rud was also pleased to secure the deal with the Reds.

He said: "We have tried to protect Nikola as much as we could, but you can't control the media.

"It is unbelievable how many enquiries we have got on Nikola, but when it comes to serious negotiations, it has been far between them.

"We are happy and proud that Nikola will join one of the best clubs in the world.

"We are also happy that Herfolge have earned some money and we feel we have deserved that."

Saric was born in Sarajevo but is a Danish Under-18 international and was named Denmark's Under-17 Player of the Year in 2007.

Like arsenal and the way they eased theo walcott into the squad , I think he should play in FA cup games and carling cup games , we can get a better look at the lad than . Got to be honest , haven't seen him play but i have heard of him .

Who said this kid is a waste of money? Where's the support? From what I know, he can play on both wings as well as up front. If he improves the health of our squad overall and is one for the future, then it's an astute signing from Rafa. Leave it a few more years, and he could be going for 14 million. Who knows. Sure Phil Tompson thought Ronaldo wasn't worth 4 million but yet Rafa is wasting more  money on a promising talented youngster?

Welcome to Liverpool, lad. Hope you do well here!

Another to the ranks, we've got quite a number of these 'hot prospects' now, hopefully one or two can push for first team action next season.

Any ideas as to compensation package?

I agree with Red, the multitude of 17 year olds we´re buying at present are hopes for the future but regardless at the age of 20, they´ll be worth more than we paid for them at 17. Whichever way you look at it, they´re investments - I guess like having a race horse stable.

highlight 1

#2 adn #3

I think this kid is supposed to be one of the more highly rated ones, as he is straight to reserves at 17. Too early right now but I think he should be in the Pacheco and Bruna category of expectations.
