Its a good move for Crouch.Hes never gonna get playing the amount of games he desies at LFC.At least at Pompey he will get games.
Starting regularly theres no doubt he will get goals im sure,if he hits 15-20 a season it will be good business for Pompey and id say hes capable of that.
Hes too good a player to be rotting on any bench, even Liverpools.Defoe and Crouch could work well for Pompey! :nod

About the best we could hope for all things considered. I think we could have got the full £15million or so if his contract hadn't run down, but £10million's not bad.

I think he has done quite well for us and maybe could have been used better over the last couple of seasons. The incredible success Torres has had, probably put the final nail in his coffin at Liverpool.

Good luck Peter and thanks.

Its sad to see the big fella move on. He always gave 100%, he was a character and his attitude was always professional.

Unlike Harry Kewell who milked all he could out of the club and gave f´all in return.

Good luck to you Crouchie, sorry you didnt achieve the recognition you deserve at Anfield.

Rafa's comments 'advertising' Crouch don't appear to have made it any more difficult to get a reasonable fee. There seemed to be a fair bit of interest in him, so perhaps he wasn't as unwise in his comments as some previously made out?

Either that, or Harry Redknapp and Portsmouth are being totally and utterly naive about the transfer market by offering to pay as much.

Considered we paid 7M, selling for 10M with only one remaining year of contract can be considered a good piece of business.

I think he has raised his value in Liverpool so we can't say he has done a bad job here.

He's a good striker.

Owen was on top wages, I presume Crouch is on much less, and therefore easier to sell. I still think we made a mistake selling Owen, we should have gambled (£8million)kept him for the last year of his contract and hoped he stayed at the end of it. It would probably have worked out cheaper in the long run with the benefit of hindsight.

For the likes of Portsmouth, Crouch is a player of a high standard - and someone they could do with. I reckon they consider it wiser to pay the £10m or so now, rather than risk losing out on a quality player - who - if a substantial offer didn't come in, would either i) Sign a new contract with us or ii) Leave on a bosman - in which case many more clubs would be interested, probably diluting the chances of Portsmouth signing him.

It's an opportunity for them to sign a quality player, a first team player, a British player. In summary, the value he'll provide them in the forthcoming season and in all probabliity in future seasons, if he signs, is worth much more than the risk of attempting to lure him on a bosman at the expense of another season, and at the mercy of increased competition.

Never wanted LFC to sign Crouch as I knew he wasn't up to the standard (like Pennant, Voronin, Kuyt as a striker). A decent player but not good enough for any of the top four.  Good luck to him at Portsmouth.

I don't know, we may not have won the CL if Owen stayed  :D

You may be right mate, I presume we wouldn't have been able to afford Garcia AND Alonso but for Owen going. I think he would have scored more goals than Baros though  :D

Bye Crouch!

With Crouch and Defoe, Pompey's front players look pretty decent.

GOOD LUCK crouch ....... !

now its time to get rid of pennant/carson ....combined 10m ?? more of tranfer funds ........ thats 20m generated ... to spend on new players ..... assuming barry and alonso fee match up ..so we got 20m to spend on someone else... hope rafa doesnt spend it on reira sh.it ! ...

Agreed.

I'm happy with the price given the circumstances.  All things considered his signing has been a success, but we are moving him on at the right time when we really need a better quality striker to progress.

One thing I will say though, is that history shows there is usually only one way players careers go after leaving the reds.  Now he is playing for a 'lesser' club he will need to be absolutely banging in the goals to retain his place in the England squad.  Look what happened to Heskey when he left us, he took a long time to adapt to playing for a lower-mid table team again.
