Me, too, mate. :D  Sadly, I've not yet made it out West but I'm looking to do a coast to coast train ride in the not to distant future on this train with the special observation deck up top:

Got this thing that I want to live in Vancouver.

It's not exactly an original thought, mate, for obvious reasons.  But lovely by all accounts, as long as you can handle rain. :nod

Apparantly the rain in Vancouver is not as bad as Seattle where you dont die of old age, you rust to death.

Why choose to live in Vancouver when there's places called Medicine Hat and Beaver Creek on the map .

and i just KNOW that someone out there or other is dying to have a go at me about some kind of sponger now. but i never said i was perfect...

I totally respect you. I'm a comfort loving bástard and I admire those people who knows to live with little comfort.

Woof's comment is a sign of age. It reaches a point in your life where you like to comment things like "These nowadays parties are shít, you know fúck all about parties, I know what a proper party is".

And you'll see. You've come with a nineties truck, and now he will tell us about Woodstock or something  :D

But these days parties are sh!t, you cant smoke indoors for one ! unless its a house party of course in which case give it time and that will be banned also !

Why the f.cuk would anyone want to live in the back of a truck for 2 years?

.... unless it was that travelling truck brothel that got stopped this week in Texas.

I made the same question when I went camping in the middle of basque mountains. Why the fúck I'm eating spaguettis cooked in a camping gas instead being at home and my comfort..

But once you end up the experience you repeat it, and somehow it's charming from time to time. Especially with the right companions.

I think it makes you stronger as a person, to be honest. If you're able to live with the minimum, then it's more likely you're NOT depressed because you can't have a new car and all that. The things that you buy and the comfort, are a drug like anything else, the more you have the more you need. So the people who know to live in a truck two years know to live without that addiction.

Sorry mate, I ocasionally get hacked off when people use the word hippies, most of them died a slow death on the vine circa 1972.

As for Sabre's

 , It's all true, but back in the day you would have had to hitch hike with me from South Africa to the UK spending six months in India and three months on the "Marrakesh Express" along the way to fully comprehend how good the party really was.

take your word for it about the parties, old man. :D  but ours weren't too bad either. i wish i still fitted into your under 40 category as well!!

and for those doubting the merits of living in the back of an old truck; mine was a 8 ton 1663 bedford rl, ex military, 4 wheel drive with wheels nearly as big as i am.  i'll bet some of the older ex squaddies on here will have spent many a happy hour in the back of one. i made mine a little more comfy. i took the back off it and built my own wooden house, complete with separate kitchen with gas cooker,  it had a wood burning stove, fitted bed and plenty of storage. during the winter it was the warmest and most comfortable place i've ever known. and in the summer i just had to drop down the tailgate and i had my own deck before any of these interior design ponces even thought of it.

one of the biggest disappointments about old blighty is that its nigh on impossible to do that kind of thing anymore.

Kharhaz wrote:Ive been trying to find a link to it but cannot find one. Its about the new law they are proposing where females and immigrants have more rights to work in britain than white british males. It was mentioned last week on Question Time and I thought it funny, this is already happening so why make it legal? Whereas the Australian leaders are standing by there own folks, ours are dismissing us altogether.

Remembered what it was about ! Women and Ethnic Minorities (not immigrants) are to be given priority over white british males.
A law is being pushed where if a woman or an Ethnic minority member has equal qualifications, or indeed is as qualified as a white brit to get a job then the white british man can be pushed down the pecking order in favour of the woman or the ethnic minority. More or less encouraging companies to dismiss the homegrown as they cannot scream "discrimination!"

At the moment it is just another proposal, like the the "if they have a drug problem, make them homeless proposal".

My point is, it is getting to the point where the people who are at the lowest, I mean the very low, former working class people, who cannot find work, lost everything they once had. They cannot get work, yes there are scroungers who have no intention of working but there are many who want there old life back but cannot get it because of the state of the rules.

White males with kids and a missus looking for work. They will fail, unless they are exceptional in there field of work, simply because there family will come first before the company they work for. Also minimum wage, the younger the better, less wage and the company can train this young lad up to be who they want him to be.

Its not a case of the brits being lazy and sponging, its simply a case of everything stacking up against the average male joe brit.
Its simply another excuse to dismiss the white brits into jobs when they can get others cheaper but offering "equal opportunities".

There is a discrimination going on. Just look at the bottom rung of the ladder and you will find the answer. The government have, and they are being punished for it.
