It seems everyone is excited about the prospects of getting villa, which I think is unlikely, given the state of our club. However I would like to ask this question, who is a better player, Torres or Villa?

--------------------

IMO, I think Torres is a better player.

Interesting question, mate.  If we're talking for Spain, there's a strong case to be made for Villa--both for his form this tournament as well as at the last World Cup.  If, however, we're talking about playing in England, well that's a different matter.  We couldn't say for certain until we'd seen Villa play a season in the Prem but Torres would take some beating given what he's shown this season.  So, I'd go with Torres based on his achievements in the competitions that really matter to most of us. :nod

Thats true mate.

However, in terms of ability, I think Torres is better than Villa for spain or their respective clubs.

Care to elaborate, mate?  I'm not necessarily disagreeing and I'm certainly not saying Torres is anything less than a world class striker, mind you.  Still, for the sake of argument, let's just focus on their form for Spain.  Villa has been a pretty special player so far.  He's popping up all over the pitch, making fantastic runs, pulling some strings as well and, of course, scoring some lovely goals.  Has he made more of an impact than our Fernando?  I think he has.  Has he played a more expansive game than Torres? Again, I think he has.  Would I swap Torres for him at Liverpool?  Not in a million years.  :D

Precisely.

In Spain I'd choose Villa.

But I don't know how Villa would perform in England. What Torres has done is not easy. Just the same way the English game benefits Torres more than la Liga, you never know if Villa's impact would be as high.

Some players are made for certain clubs. So it's a tough one.

Well, im intending to talk about their ability on the pitch, not form really, Yeh Villa has a better form than Torres with the spanish national team, but when you look in terms of ability, Torres wins it for me, in terms of strength, technique, game intelligence and ariel ability, Torres is better.

One man vs. a whole club, I would still take Torres over Aston Villa

Torres would win 6-1, despite going off injured in the 3rd minute...

If we're gonna have a debate we cannot say Torres is better in any aspect of the game right?

There are things in which Torres is better, and there are things in which Villa is slightly superior.

Torre is more pacy, but in small spaces Villa is less predictible, he uses his left foot more often than Torres, so defenders are not that sure how to position their body to defend him because if they invite him to use the left he will and will finnish more often than not. While Torres knows finnishing with both, he tends to use his right more often, which is a slight advantage for the defender.

However I doubt Villa would be an even greater impact here than Torres, such is the level our Fernando has achieved.

Do you think Torres will have a similar impact this season Sabre or do you think he will find it much more difficult as defenders now know what to expect? Obviously it also depends on who we bring in.

What, you want another glorious prediction? Here I go: Torres will not make half the goals in his second season, and you can quote me on that  :D

Since I'm jinxed, he'll score 40, which is the point.

In all seriousness I think you're as able to answer that question as I am, since one season is enough for you to talk about his game S@int.

I've read in other posts that in England the concept of "the second year is always more difficult" also exists. That phrase is applied here especially to youngsters. But it's not a rule without exceptions.

Perhaps Torres won't score 30 again next season, but not because the opponents know him better, because quite simply you cannot make your best season of your career every year -- look Gerrard, we cannot ask him 20+ goals a season every year, and look Villa, who this season hasn't been very prolific in the liga.

If you ask me, I'm not worried about defenders knowing Torres better because I think the kind of game of the premiership suits him well.

completely different sort of players. I think villa is understimated to be honest he has no "Glamour" or "arrogance" compared to many other players y many senses..however villa has displayed what is able to do.You just need to revise statistics...

Torres...... I clicked Villa by mistake..... mouse faster than brain.

I do however think that Nando will find it tougher this coming season but the lad's a beast of a player..... Money well spent.
If we get a couple of real, quality wingers, can you imagine the havoc he'd create with the inevitable extra space created?
