Can't believe the cheek of Henrik Larsson. He retires from international footy after the last world cup (I think) lets the team do all the hard work qualifying for the tournament and then comes back out of retirement to go to the finals. Cheeky Fecker. :no

Villa is too dear for us at this time sadly.

No doubt Villa is more expensive today than yesterday.

We shouldn't get too carried away with this result. Euphoria because of a decent win is the main mistake a Spaniard tend to do on those occasions.

For me the game only counts until the 1-0 when it comes to analysis, and we shouldn't overlook Russia has shown how to make us harm in the left wing and with counter attack.

Of course after the 1-0 it's everything easy, Russia has to find a goal, can't wait to us that much, and everything is easier. BUt we'd better take good note of some tactical mistakes before the first goal. Because, if one day we find a tough opposition -- and we will -- and we go 0-1 down, you have to know to give answers to that aswell.

Anyhow, not bad.

Only flaws I saw were the Spanish fullbacks, who were poor (defending), I thought Xavi was outstanding until he tired late on. I thought Torres and Villa had things easy with the quality of pass they were getting, but they did looked top quality.

I think Spain need to go with an even more attacking lineup:
                                            Reina
Xavi      Sergio Ramos     Xabi Alonso      Iniesta
          Sergio Garcia       Cazorla      Fabregas          Silva
                         Torres               Villa
Bench: Raul, Luis Garcia, Vicente, Joaquin, Jesus Navas

:D

I see another problem besides the full backs, mate.

I'll put to you simply: should you put Spain playing against Liverpool , Spain would have major troubles. It could perfectly be a Spain 0 - 2 Liverpool (Imagine a replicated Torres in each team).

The day we find a team that presses well to recover the ball like Liverpool does (except in bliiips) at a top level, the day Spain will struggle. Pretty much the same problem we had in the world cup, although back then there were extra problems both in the system and the players. I'm worried when we lose the ball mate, as we say here, we're caught in underwear too often.

P.S.   @ Joe's comment.

Great performance from Spain, was gutted to see Torres taken off so early, the only good thing is that he wasnt injured.
Villa was fantastic, the best movement i have seen in a long time, Russia are a strange team, they look like they could concede every time the other team attack (they were the same in the qualifiers against England) but they are athreat going forwards and could of scored more than the one they got.

What was with that celebration from Villa, are they bessie mates or something ?
Me mate sent me a text saying he's already signed him i reckon, i very much doubt that like but we can all dream  :D

So far not bad , i've got a 5 on greece to win 1-0 and a 5 for this to be a 1-1 draw . would prefer a 1-0 greece win . Second half , greece need to step up the pace , get the goal than die off like the did in the first half  :D

Tbh nanny, dont think thats his fault, think it was the instructions given by Aragones. Senna was dropping into right back when he went forward. There were still big gaps at times but thought that Ramos was just doing what he was asked to do cos there was no right winger.

Xabi tries to get the ball of the ref for him

an now this

Villa: The Third One's For Torres

Speaking briefly after his side's 4-1 win over Russia, Spain striker David Villa dedicated his third goal to strike partner Fernando Torres...

'El Guaje' and 'El Niño' started up front together for La Furija Roja, but although the latter was not to get on the scoresheet, Villa deemed his contribution as vital.

The hat-trick hero said after the match, "Much was said before the game about Torres, and whether or not he's suitable for this squad, but we see how misplaced that is now.

"Therefore I want to dedicated my third goal to him because my first two were in a large percentage down to him.

"The first, you all saw that, and the second it was him who opened up space for [Andrés] Iniesta to pass through."

Torres had been substituted off for Francesc 'Cesc' Fàbregas prior to Villa's third, which Cesc, suitably enough, played a role in. The Arsenal man later added the fourth himself.

Ball Boy

But it was Villa's evening, and one which he sought to crown with the match ball.

"The referee wasn't going to let me keep the ball, which was a shame as I was excited," he revealed.

"Luckily [Pepe] Reina, who speaks English very well, was able to talk him around so I could carry it away."

The lads a red with all these scouse lads stickin up for him
