With the possibility of having 7 subs on the bench we will definatley need to keep the numbers up but that doesnt mean that we should be compromise quality. Sadley that looks like the route we are going down - again. Its not Rafas fault, its these kunt clowns that are in charge. And im not just talking about the Americans.

You can only use three subs so unless we have a really bad injury crisis then there should never be a problem filling seats. I'd rather use two of those subs places for kids than go signing a plethora of cheapish ordinary players. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of seven subs as that allows cover for more positions to be replaced, but one will always be the keeper in case of injury and it's cover for the CBs who are unlikely to be replaced tactically that takes up a second sub spot. So the GK and CB use up two of the five spots and mean the manager can only currently pick three players who will probably come on.

If you assume the GK and CB will be the first two names on the bench then it's really giving the manager three from five to choose from. At the moment the only way the manager can have a wider range of choices is to risk not having a keeper on the bench and even not having a CB on the bench. How often do either come off the bench? Split the team into the core areas - GK, CBs, FBs, CMs, WGs and CFs then you'd have six subs if they could play either side to cover those six core areas. Obviously you have LB/RB and LM/RM, but if you wanted to literally cover each position then you'd have as many on the bench as start on the pitch

Oh for some reason I thought they were also trying to get the number of subs allowed up to 4. :-)

This morning is so depressing.

Scum have won the European Cup, we are losing one of our best players and we are getting a :censored:

Got to admit I feel very similar to you this morning mate. I just wish we would get the quality in as soon as and then the summer will pass and we can forget this season

Maybe we are, I only heard about the seven subs move and how it made sense given that is the number in the Champions League (around which the whole world revolves of course!)

I would think it stupid if they allow four subs. I'd maybe allow teams to bring back on subbed players as injury replacements, say if we took off Kuyt and Torres got injured and we'd used out three subs then we could bring Kuyt back on. But increasing the subs permitted would lead to more and more time wasting, most teams wouldn't use tactical substitutions until the second half earliest. A lot use them to waste time and Rafa hasn't always used them even when we've been losing so I think they should stick with three substitutions allowed.

I was going to suggest unlimited injury substitutions, but plenty of players are experienced pros when it comes to feigning injury so that would be hard to work. Good idea in principle, it would work on a PS2 management game.

I want to see Pablo Aimar here at Liverpool. Still reckon the lad has enough ability to make an impact in the Premier League. Certainly he would offer a stronger attacking threat than Yossi. While at the same time. ticking most if not more...boxes in the Garcia mould. A component that the squad has missed in my view.

I read that Ince Jr had signed, I didn't find it believable given who Ince Sr played for. He was less famous for playing for us. Saying that if he signed for us in 1997 and Ince Jr is 16 so I guess he would have been spared knowing much about the darker days of Ince's career

As far as I am aware Ince's son has been at Liverpool for years. He was mentioned in Fowlers book. Houllier supposedly told the scout(?) off for bringing him because Ince had just been slagging Houllier off after leaving the club.

I presume he has signed now he has turned 16

Yeah same here. I thought he would have been one of Rafas first signings but it never happened. Strange as he was the star player at Valencia but maybe he didnt get on that well with Rafa.

Paul Ince's son Thomas joins Anfield academy May 22 2008

A FAMOUS Liverpool and England name is on the Anfield club’s new role of Academy youngsters with Thomas Ince following in his father’s footsteps.

Ince junior, 16, has been taken on by the club as a first-year Academy trainee, but unlike his father, who was an England captain as a midfielder, Thomas is a striker.

Paul, 40, is now manager of MK Dons and took them to promotion from Coca-Cola League Two this season, after previously taking charge of Macclesfield when his playing career came to an end.

Ince played for West Ham and Manchester United before moving to Inter Milan, and cited the fact that he wanted Thomas to attend school in England as the reason for his return from Italy to join Liverpool in 1997.

The Ince family have always kept their home in Wirral, where Thomas has worked his way successfully through the Liverpool’s schoolboy teams to the point that he has now started his career as a professional.
