The lamest bit of business lfc will ever do - The £8m + real right midfielder deal

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

BBC Sport story on the latest deal on the table

First of all, who the hell is this Carlos Nunez? I put that name into google and it came back with a folk musician.

According to the Real Madrid website, they have a Antonio Núñez Tena, who is listed as a central midfield player. Don't suppose this is him?

Regardless, whoever he is, he wasn't in the team in their recent pre-season match, so from what I can make out he's a reserve team player at best.

So a 2nd or 3rd choie midfielder and £8m gets Real Madrid English football's most potent attacking force? If this goes through, the team negotiating this deal on the LFC end are the biggest bunch of f**king pussies I've ever heard of. That's an absolutely dire bit of business.

Of all the stories I've read in this whole sorry saga, this is the bleakest yet.

Remember Owen can sign on a Bosman in December. £ 8 millions is still a lot of money. If this deal falls through and Owen decides to wait until December, what then? I can actually see him relegated to playing and training with the reserves. That's not the best way to end his Liverpool days?

I agree i am not sure this is the best deal LFC could have made. We need to move forward not end up with everyone elses left overs.

It is not a lot of money, esp as Garcia will cost us nearly as much and he is 3rd choice at BArca now. However, this situation is down to Owen continually stalling over a contract and Houllier for being too soft with him. At the start of last year if he wasn't going to sign we should have sold him then, but we are in a weak position at the negotiating table unfortunately.

Its a ****** joke, our board have betrayed us again, he was valued at £30 Million not too long ago.
£8 Million is a joke, even the £10 Million plus Morientes or E'to would have been a snip but this takes the p1ss
And do you all honestly think our board will invest in another well known world class striker to replace him?

Unless he REALLY wants to go to Real, it'd be in his best interests to sign a one year extension and use this season to actually impress potential suitors. That way, everyone wins.

Spot on .....

it does seem disproportinate anount of money considering Owen's satus as a World class Player but we are, as Charwell has said in a weak bargaining position ... :glare:

Again houllier's failings on and off the pitch are continuing to cost us dear.

He told us time and time again owen would sign a new contract and yet here we are looking at receiving 8m and a young prospect for our top scorer 6 seasons running.
Smith to Shankly:My thigh is a bit sore, but I think I could play.
Shankly to Fagan:Tell him,Joe.He has got no chance of playing.
Smith to Fagan:Tell him to sod off.It is not his leg,it's mine.
Shankly to Smith:Oh no son.You are wrong, son. It is not your leg.
It is Liverpool Football Club's leg.

I don't think Houllier will have had too much to do with the negotiations.

Whoever is responsible for letting it drag on this long should be considering their position at this point though.

This is ******, 8 million is not a lot. Owen is worth anywhere from 19-25 million.
