Anyone know about the requirements for plates regarding UK law?

Im after a replacement rear plate (just the bog standard Yellow one/UK standard font etc), except......ive found a place online that makes em up to order and one of the options was to have the Liverpool crest inplace of that Euro stars/GB thing. Question is, will plod pull me over for it.

I cant be ar5ed looking on the DVLA site. Just after a quick yes or no.

Ta  :)

I'm fairly certain that the official DVLA line is that you should go to a registered outlet to get it printed - after providing your doc's, it would then meet 'official' standards. In saying that, I don't think it should be a problem so long as the crest doesn't obstruct the font i.e. it the crest must be quite small.

Most printers place their logo on the plate anyway, add to that - most car garages place some sort of minor advertising at the bottom of them.

I think they are fine at the moment but I do know of a change in the regulations that is in the pipeline.

There was a story in Autoexpress magazine a coulpe of months back saying that number plates will have to comform to  regulations like - the correct font, colour, the blue EU logo with the cars country of registration displayed and an authorised number plate retailers logo across the bottom. If they don't have all of these  then the car can be failed when it comes to it's MOT. So all of these different logos in place of the blue EU logo are being effectivly banned.

This was supposed to be in by now but a glitch with the MOT computer software has held it up, but the article did say it WILL be coming in as soon as this is sorted.

Sorry to be a party pooper!!  :p

I had the Liverbird as a Hologram on my old number plate behind the letters and numbers and got pulled loads of times but....driving around Manchester it was always going to happen. Never went any further than a producer though :)

Update: (in case anyone else wants the info)

Just got off the phone wit the DVLA. 2 of their representatives claimed to know nothing about the September 1st changes to the Reg.Plates laws. But...they both did say that the depiction of anything other than the EU/GB thing (which also HAS to comply with the, err.... EU directives) In other words must be the dark blue/yellow stars and 'insert' country/nations prefix - ie GB. Is illegal and manna for the bizzies.

As for the small lettering found underneath the main (strictly spaced/sized) font. That too is open for questioning from plod. Although not as serious a breach as having a caracature/symbol/picture etc...they can and do prosecute/dish out fines for em.  :glare:

Anyway, ive decided to just get the bog standard rear plate done to save any hassle...(never know what i might have in the boot at any one time) Last thing you need is giving them any excuse for a pull and a root over the car!  :p
