Tough one to take. I agree that chelsea where the 'better' side in the frist half/extra time, but if u compare chelsea's performance at anfield....
Some of the mistakes the refree made were dreadful. Drogba should have been shown a yellow card for that awful tackle on Gerald and a second yellow when he shot after the refree and CLEARLY whistled for an offside. I can't understand why the rules aren't followed. You're either gonna make rules and use them or let the refree do what he wants...pick one ffs :p

Lads, I learnt 2 things tonight.

1. We're not good enough. Up against Utd or Chelsea you can see why they are pushing for the league and not us, they are class acts have some great players and have spent fortunes to create such strength. Like it or not Rafa needs more time and moe money and I say in praise opf him 3 CL semi's in 4 years is a mniracle considering we are pretty lukewarm. Apart from a good patch at the start of the second half we werent really ever goal threatening. Benni, Riise, Alonso, Pennant, Hyypia, Arabola etc,, simply arent good enough. Nice lads and would fit in well at Newcastle or Blackburn but they are not Premiership winning material.

2. Second thing, the 77 Shirt only works during normal time.

Sad we lost, we'll be back again of course but now it time to get rid of the yanks and prepare for next season.

I would rate it more like this:
Liverpool

Jose Reina 7
Alvaro Arbeloa 5.5
Jamie Carragher 7
Martin Skrtel (off 22) 6
John Arne Riise 5.5
Xabi Alonso 6
Javier Mascherano 6.5
Dirk Kuyt 6
Steven Gerrard 6.5
Yossi Benayoun 6
Fernando Torres 6.5

Substitutes

Sami Hyypia 5.5
Jermaine Pennant 5.5
Ryan Babel 6.5

I am a bit disappointed. But I'm satisfied with the result. There were doubts we'd even get one goal. If only Riise could clear with his right foot...

1. Skrtel injury.
Very big impact on the game. Hyypia is not good enough and fast enough for these kind of games. We conceded only minutes after Skrtels injury.

2. Hyypia
Made a terrible terrible tackle. The ref was just waiting for an excuse to award a penalty and Hyypia made it easy for him. Also his passing and overall contribution was way way way off the standard required in a CL semi final. His days are long numbered.

3. Carra
Is he good enough for Liverpool? Great committment and a scouser through and through. But that don't make him a LFC solid. At fault on two goals today. Clearly destroyed the offside trap on 3-1 and let the team down on 1-0 (together with a unbelieavably horrible Hyypia). Terrible passing and creativity.

4. Rafa
Made clear errors with the substitution of Torres and with allowing Pennant to play and Kuyt to finish. Kuyt was no threath. Pennent has never produced anything against quality opposition and Torres should always play unless he has two broken legs.

5. Referee
Overall very good. Could have awarded a penalty for LFC. Should have added more time and given more yellow cards to Chelsea. Why not give a penalty for the foul on Hyypia. Suspicion of offside on Chelsea goal nr.1 .

Ratings

Reina    7

Arbeloa   6
Carra 5
Skrtel 7
Riise 5

Kuyt  6
Alonso  8
Masch 8
Gerrard 7
Benayoun 6

Torres 8

Subs:
Hyypia 3
Babel 8
Pennant 2

U're a :censored:i.ng idiot and a wum , question carragher's ability  :kungfu:

Stfub.

Meet me at Wenlock arms tomorrow and receive your punishment.

You clearly have no knowledge of football.

Think someone is above criticism azole?

I support Liverpool. Players come and go. Players make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. Some make it more often than others.

We need one (or two strikers), a rigfht winger, a left winger and a left back to become the best team in the world. Suck on my D btch.

I'm gutted, but so ruddy proud of the team. In the end luck showed it's ugly face and we got the thick edge of the wedge. Rafa's change wasn't a bad one but the timing was a little off. It's no secret Torres isn't the best penalty taker and Babel has a better record with them. I think thats the reason why the sub was made. I don't think Rafa's to blame. There was logic in all of his decisions and again we lost on luck. Hyypia deserved a what looked like a StoneWaller and Skrtl who in the early signs looked to have the beating of Drogba suffered an injury. No one's to blame in my opinion. Well done lads for providing an entertaining season and for shrugging away the of field antics when on the pitch. Football's a cruel game, we spend all year watching the team and for that it gets disregarded within one night. Thats football though, and i guess it's why we love it.

I'm confident that with a few good signing's we can have a better push next seaon, looking forward to the pre-seaon and hope we dont suffer any injuries when the lads are out with there national sides. It's not the end of the world, after all we support the best team in the world!

Thanks for another season lads!

Your comment about Torres which begins "apart from his goal" :D is an interesting one and suffice to say I don't agree with that.

Hehe, ofcourse it was a great goal and very important one.
But just a minute before his goal, I was thinking that Rafa should bring in Crouch. Because the soaked pitch isnt very good to players like Torres (and he didnt seem very happy with it. Some bad first touches).

But all attackers were close to a goal. Kuyt was unlucky with his little flick at the ball in the first half.

Liverpool was just unlucky. When the score was 1-1, Liverpool was putting some serious pressure on Chelsea.

I think we will get a boring final.

Not too bad that mate but Pennant was a little too high, I thought he was p!ss poor when he came on. Certainly no more than  5 at best, and I would have given Torres a 7 (just for the goal)

You're struggling to find the right words arent you mate?

I was a 'bit disappointed' when I dropped a Cadbury's Cream Egg on the floor when I was a child. I would not compare that with Liverpool losing in semi-final of the Champions League to a bunch of overpaid and arrogant Chavski w@nkers. Get my drift?

You're not Tom Hicks are you?

Lets hope that after we gave it a massive effort over the two legs that this thread doesn't turn into a character assassination of players/manager/.referee etc........ It was quite simply a wonderful game of football just as the 2nd leg against Arsenal was. I'll tell you what , it was a damn site better than that drivel that the Mancs served up last night !

I notice Lakes is posting to form and thats fine cos he's been consistent about Benitez for many months now. I don't agree with him but I respect his viewpoint.

Reg posted well about not quite being up at the level of Chelsea and Man U and there is some truth in that but consider this ........ CFC brought on 3 substitutions tonight with a  combined transfer value of £58 Million .............SUBS !!!!!!!! Thats twice what we paid for Torres FFS.

Ha, o yeah in that case Rafa's an idiot and needs to go... Not really lol. I'm unsure why he took him off but there had to be a legitimate reason.
