We made him what he is today and the way he has behaved over this contract for the last year is terrible. I mean it is 2 days before the start of the season, 2 days!!! he should have signed, put all the other player's mind's at rest and the fans. And what about Raffer the Gaffer? He doesn't even know if Michael will be there or not on saturday, next week or next month...well I say sell him now and quick because otherwise we're gonna get nothing next summer. Let Madrid have him to keep the bench warm for Morientes, Raul and Ronaldo...when we meet them in the Champions league he can exchange shirts with his opposite number....Warnock or one of our subs!! This is a harsh post, I know, but I am p*ssed off with tis situation, not just WHAT is happening but WHEN!!! 2 days!!! *sigh* I'm gonna shut up!

It surely is frustrating. I've changed my mind 50 times whether he's staying or going since I started typing.

My take is that the club told him he needs to sign before the season starts, he delayed, his manager was in his ear about Madrid, Raffa said I can live without you just watch me, he did, Michael is on the bench and training with the reserves, and Madrid are thinking well we dont really need him, but if we get him on the cheap, then why not?

Surely Michael can see that he is in the worst possible position. If Madrid will not pay 25m in cash for him, they dont really want him.

The lad should sign a 2 year extension quick smart and sack his SFX manager.

well motientes and Eto'o don't look like comming to Anfield and i dont recon Real
will stump up 25 mill or even 15 mill in  straight cash to be honest, especially if they really want Viera. I just wish we could concentrate on Spurs on saturday not all these distractions. :p

Another twist in the tale - first time I heard this version of events:

Real Madrid officials claim that they had little interest in signing Michael Owen until they were offered the England striker by Liverpool.

MICHAEL OWEN
Owen has just ten months left on his current Anfield contract and the Reds are desperate not to lose him for nothing next summer.

It is believed that this fear prompted the club to look at ways to offload Owen and a move to Madrid now looks likely, after they received a surprise call to inform them that the striker was available.

An official of the Spanish club revealed: "We are pleasantly surprised that Liverpool are happy to talk about the sale of Michael Owen to Real Madrid.

It was Liverpool who made the first move. They contacted Madrid saying that Owen was available and invited an offer."

It had earlier been reported that a part exchange deal was on the cards, with either Fernando Morientes or Samuel Eto'o on their way to Anfield.

However, Eto'o, who is co-owned by Real Mallorca, is close to completing a move to Barcelona and Morientes is now cup-tied having scored both goals in Madrid's Champions League qualifier against Wisla Krakow.

I mean....we offered Owen to Madrid? It makes sense I guess but then when can you ever believe a word Madrid say? Either way, it shows the club is not mucking about with this contract anymore, they have obviously made their final offer and feel Owen could walk out on a Bossie next summer so I am in favour of it.

the bottom line is with the unlikeliness of morientes or eto'o coming in now, if owen does leave it can only be because rafa has someone else lined up who can guarantee 20+ goals a season.

Yeah, but who?

Also, ever thought that the Manc's are possibly looking for a new striker?

At certain times, Michael made LFC what it is. Because of Michael we didn't drop below the 5th place in the Premiership
