FULHAM VS LIVERPOOL (Sat 19th April 3pm K.O.) - Discussion and team speculation etc here

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I'd rest everybody, play the reserve team, even if we loose this 4th place is a good as ours as the bitters are not going to get 5 points or more out of their last 3 games, no way, they are playing sh1t lately and have Aston Villa (good), Arsenal at home (V good) and a dtrong resurgent Newcastle team and I am sure that we will get a few points out of our remaining games with Birmingham, Man City and Spurs who are all having a dip in form.
It would be great if we could get the win on Saturday but I would not risk any of our players on this game, it is so crucial we beat Chelsea on Tuesday as there is sod all chance of us beating them at the bridge!

With that team we're gonna get battered . Yes , some players from the reserve team can be mixed it and who's gonna captain  the side?

there was only ONE reserve team player in that game, Plessis.

By reserves I mean players that rarely get a start.

Insua didnt play for the reserves, and Plessis had 20 mins. I see them both starting.

Wow, what an appaling side somebody put out on this thread for tommorow's game.

4th place may well be as good as our's but tommorow's game is still important simply because a win would keep up our excellent run, excluding the game against the Mancs, and keep the confidence within the camp sky high.

I'm all for giving the likes of Insua and Plessis starts aslong as there is some experience in there to go with it.

I'd like to see -

Reina

Insua
Carragher
Hyypia
Finnan

Riise
Alonso
Plessis
Lucas
Benayoun

Crouch

Itandje
Skrtel
Arbeloa
Pennant
Voronin

That's a team without the likes of Aurelio (has played a lot of games lately), Mascherano, Gerrard, Babel and Torres that can actually go and beat Fulham at Craven Cottage, which under the circumstances will be a difficult enough game already.

I think Rafa won't start with the main players as Torres, Gerrard and Carragher so we're gonna see maybe some players of our bench that are waiting this chance as Voronin, Crouch and Pennant.

Anyway we are in a comfortable place for a team which is concentrating on the champions league and his hope to book a place in the champions league next season and Fulham isn't the team that make us panic, with the effort of our bench players and their opportunity to shoe their best will lead to the 3 points hopefully and good luck tomorrow

Given that Gerrard may be a doubt I'd go for;

Reina

Riise
Carragher
Skrtel
Arbeloa

Babel
Mascherano
Lucas
Kuyt

Benayoun
Crouch

I think that's a fairly strong team that would be able to do the job. We don't really need to rest too many players as we've only got a piss little cup game midweek, hardly anything to rave about.

And I thought I was a prorotationist.

Perhaps paying too much attention to bigmick's post has hypnotised me or something, but the kind of starting elevens that many of my forum members are suggesting, have massive levels of rotation! Too much for my liking, even.

I like how you appreciate the youth Joe, as I understand a football club, I think the youth ranks is something we always should take care of. And it's true that youth need to come into the first team, but it's better to do so progresively and not 5 youngsters all of a sudden, even if they're used to play together. As the rythm of a top league will overwhelm them.

I'd go for resting the most used players, bring in Lucas, rest Aurelio with Arbeloa or giving Riise 90 mins, things like that. I'd rest either Torres or Gerrard, but not the two of them. But still trying to find a strong team to get the 3 points.

A thing that springs to mind when reading those starting elevens you suggest, is that many people isn't expecting Pennant to appear in the possible team, it seems as if people do not count much with Pennant any more. I expected him to have a more important role this season, but it doesn't seem that he has progressed at all this season. He should be appearing in this kind of game.

I think quite a few posters are overestimating tomorrow's team by a long shot. There's no way Rafa is going to risk a player that would be more likely to pick up an injury ahead of Tuesdays game - especially when you consider there is currently a 5 point gap on Everton and thier next game is Arsenal away, the gap will be the same even after next weeks round of games should we lose the next 2 league games - which is very unlikely to happen.

Don't get me wrong, I think Carra and Skrtel will feature, but in no way will Gerrard, Torres, Masch Kuyt, Babel or Reina for that matter start the game - with Gerrard and Torres playing absolutely no part at any point. Plessis will start, as will Insua. Nemeth, on the other hand will not as Crouch and Voronin have played themselves back in the reckoning. I mentioned this just after the Blackburn game way back when, mind, second to last post.....

I toyed with the idea, but plodded for Kuyt instead as you can be sure he'll work his nuts off whereas Pennant is less likely to raise his game for this type of fixture. Although, I don't think it's all that significant which one you choose TBH.

I am sure that we will see a team very similar to the team setup that Rafa put out against Arsenal at the Emirates in the Premier League (between our two Champions League ties) That team played very well and Rafa will have the confidence to employ another setup like that.
