David moores speaks out - Finally

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Moores is spot on about Hicks' crass timing. I can't help but feel he let his thoughts on Parry be leaked deliberately after one of the club's best European nights. It would appear this man values his ego more than Liverpool football club.

Shankly said: "I'm a people man - and it's all about the people." Mr Hicks would best be advised to massage his ego elsewhere because he has clearly shown he couldn't give a monkeys about LFC and its fans.

TBH, it's not too hard to call most players 'not top quality' after a few games given that a small proportion of any manager's total number of transfers turn out to be 'top quality' (i.e. those who are generally considered top quality/ broad-spectrum consensus). More often than not you're going to be right, as with those who occupy the middle ground i.e. those who can be debated either way (up to standard or not), you can justify that you were correct in saying  'they were never up to standard'  because there's plenty of room for manoeuvre i.e. because they're not obviously utter sh!te, or they're not obviously very talented. You can't really justify that Voronin is up to standard for the squad, but you can (just about) justify that Kuyt is for example. The same applies with Crouch (you could argue he's decent which most do, but not top class).

Just to reiterate, it makes sense to bank on the side of saying they'll never be up to standard (if you want to claim you're near enough always right) because the odds they'll be top class are much slimmer compared to the odds that they'll turn out i) sh!t, or ii) average - which you can argue either way if they're not obviously super-talented (like Torres), or super-sh!t (like Voronin - I don't like saying that about LFC players but he is).

IMO, differences between the perceived standards we require in order to compete creates the greatest disparity in player opinion. Given the strength of our competitors up front, and on the wings, it can be argued quite legitimately, that the standard of player we require to compete is now far higher than what it was in previous years. I certainly feel whilst we may not have players who are sh!t outright (which is the impression created by some - Hardcore D&G'ers) - but rather ones who are useful and hard-working, and we merely appear distinctly average in comparison to our competitors (in attacking positions). Some people don't perceive the standard to be as high as others and the question really is; how far away is the standard of attacking player we possess in comparison to the Manc's? They are of course the benchmark now.

I guess the nature of the optimists on here (me being one) is to appreciate how useful certain players can be in their own right, but placing less significance on what their level is relative to our competitors. That's something I've certainly learned to appreciate over the past year especially - the bar has been raised (by the manc's especially) and cutting-edge/guile/flair/goal threat in attacking positions is generally what defines great teams from average ones dotted with the odd top-quality player here or there. I thought we may have been able to get away with it in past seasons, but it's clear we can't and won't be able to, and that's why we need the real deal this summer. No 'punts' or squad players, the real deal and nothing less.

Like it or not, his view is now as valid or invalid as the lowliest fan and as one of the key figures in placing the club in its current predicament. He should have stayed quiet.

It's like me bitching that the people I sold my house to and made a sh#t load of money from have turned it into a brothel.

He´s still on the board and has the ability to influence the outcome of this fiasco so its time he stopped sulking and came out fighting.

Time for him to make amends.
