The outcome?

What do you think will be the outcome of all this Michael Owen speculation will be?

In my opinion, I believe that Michael will stay. The speculation about Real Madrid has been proven false for the most part.
a)Morientes played in Real's game today making him cup-tied along with every other player who played for Real for that matter
b)Etto signed a deal with Barcelona so there is no "10 million pounds plus Morientes/Etto" anymore.
c)I don't believe that Michael would like to be a back up striker for Real neither would Real pay a lot of money for a 3rd striker who probably would be on the bench.
d)A Barcelona move is unlikely as well, Barcelona bought Larsson from Celtic and Etto from Madrid. So they have their strikers for that matter and I don't think they are interested in Michael

The media has really blown this out of proportion, nobody has officialy commented about this situation. I know that most have asked "If Owen was loyal to LFC he would had sign" but this situation is a bit more complicated than it seems, and also there is Owen being on the bench. I don't think that had anything to do with Owen leaving it was all about who Rafa thought should play that game. Remember that Rafa did say that each striker would play around twenty games. I don't think that Owen was mentally fit for the game due to all this speculation so Rafa decided to bench him.

In conclusion, I think Michael Owen, the Liverpool wonder will stay with us. I don't see him going to a different club and if we were to replace him the only player that I would like to see wear that number 10 shirt would be Thierry Henry but thats unlikely.

Post your thoughts on this. If there was a topic made about this already, I apologize.

good post, I also think Owen will stay beacause of the reason you have stated, and the fact that we are pretty much assured of a CL spot.

Owen may not have been 'mentally fit' as you say, but there was the reason that if we had lost and had a chance of not making the CL, and MO had played, then he would be cup tied, wanting a tranfer but couldn't play champions league for the other team who would have signed him.

To replace him , well it wouldn't be easy, I don't think you could replace him man for man, but bring in someone who will score a lot of goals , which would give us Cisse, Baros, Pongolle and mystery man, a good strikeforce. Omly player to replace him is Henry you think, there are others who could replace him and do a good job, Henry will cost a world record fee, and even then Wenger may not sell him, he turned down bids of 50 million plus last season.

Good post, i think the Real M angle has bit overblown by speculative press
A lot of this does seem to be about hanging tough for contract process and hopefully at the end of days he stays, the more strikers we have the better. Its a long season :D

Thats not Owen talking thats the media. Owen hasn't really said that he wants to go. If Owen wanted to go then
1)he wouldn't travel to Austria the day after the speculation started
2)He would had already accepted the Real Madrid offer and would had been gone

Yes Henry is expensive, forgot about that but how much is he getting paid by Arsenal currently?

There's no smoke without fire and I believe that Michael Owen came very close to being a Real Madrid player. He was benched the other night so as to avoid him being cup tied, it is nothing to do with who was the better striker on the day. And even if it were then surely Michael would have had the last 20 mins, a bit of competitive football before the season starts on saturday....no I think he was held back so he was sellable to Real Madrid. Anyway, the deal seems to be off now, as A.B said Real Madrid's whole team is cup tied for the CL now so unless they give us £25mill in cash it ain't gonna happen.
As for Michael well I have lost some faith in him, and it will not be restored until he signs that new contract, rthis stalling is frustrating EVERYONE and until he signs I am going to have my doubts about his loyalty, his will to wear the red shirt and to give it all for the club.
Oh, and about Henry.....erm....ain't ever gonna happen, ever, in a million years, ever.

Real is focused on Viera, who knows how much they're offering him to leave Arsenal, I don't see them focusing on Owen at all.

He doesn't want to stay, he clearly indicated that by not signing a contract after nearly a year of talks, I honestly don't know if he'll leave before the 31st but if we don't sell him it would be a mistake cos otherwise he is just going to leave in Jan for FREE:(

I don't think the Eto deal is actually done and dusted, he wants to move to Barca but wasn't there a last minute hitch ?

As for Mikey Madrid are saying they were surprised by his eagerness to move to them, also read somewhere else that Mikey is not happy with Rafa's style of management even thought he supported RBs move to LFC :(

it's getting to the point now where I don't care. If he stays, then fine, concentrate on the job, score the goals and pi** off next season. If he does go now them shead a tear, thank him his many years of service and goals and lets replace him.

Dont know why the papers are talking about player swaps for Owen. If he goes to Madrid, the powers that be at LFC would want 25m in cash to spend on other areas of the field.

I just read somewhere that Owen is training with the reserves. I was confident he'd re-sign. Now I'm not so sure...

i think there is something more going on possibly he is annoyed that he isnt a gaurenteed 1st team player no more and i think Real are going to try and take advantage of the 1 year left on his current deal and offer way under the asking price myself

I think he will go and for me it's a case of "Thanks for everything, now f**k off" I'm sorry, he's been great, but his attitude towards the club that made him has left me angry. We made him what he is today and the way he has behaved over this contract for the last year is terrible. I mean it is 2 days before the start of the season, 2 days!!! he should have signed, put all the other player's mind's at rest and the fans. And what about Raffer the Gaffer? He doesn't even know if Michael will be there or not on saturday, next week or next month...well I say sell him now and quick because otherwise we're gonna get nothing next summer. Let Madrid have him to keep the bench warm for Morientes, Raul and Ronaldo...when we meet them in the Champions league he can exchange shirts with his opposite number....Warnock or one of our subs!! This is a harsh post, I know, but I am p*ssed off with tis situation, not just WHAT is happening but WHEN!!! 2 days!!! *sigh* I'm gonna shut up!
