The dirk kuyt debate....is he good enough?

Well he put in a top performance on the right last night, we can sell Pennant now and play him as a winger. Did anyone else note how many tackles he attempted, made and how often he actually won the ball? I'd almost give him MOTM for that, I'm certainly struggling to come up with someone who deserves it more.

I agree but he still doesn't have much quality, most times when he has the ball I don't have high hopes of anything developing, but for shear running about and badgering opponents he was incredible last night and I agree Man of the Match

words i never thought i would ever be writing in this life time........dirk
played well last night in the 2nd half.

in the 1st half i was cursing him for his lack of ideas and control, yet in the 2nd half i saw some guy who resemble dirk(i still can't believe that was him)playing with great awareness. i must have had something in my eye, because he even looked a bit faster getting to the ball....i know i know thats impossible.

I have been saying in from the start of the season never doubt dirk kuyt

Always being asked to play outta position and he's never complained , always running never stopping , has done well as a winger

He has been the unsung hero a few times this season

Arguably he's now playing "in position" because he is no striker--at least not at this level.  He does a lot of good work on the flank, though, and my hat's off to him for that.

I heard on a local radio station someone compare Dirk Kuyt to Ray Kennedy. From forward to midfielder.

I don't like Kuyt as a forward or winger and I certainly wouldn't be comparing him to one of our greats like Kennedy but last couple of games he's doing the job which is asked of him and we're getting results, so maybe he is there just to do the donkey work. If that's the case we need our left winger (usually Babel) to produce the goods when we're going forward, because Kuyt doesn't offer a constant threat in attacking terms.

3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

All I can say is.. what a star. Has been in ripping form recently. What a ball for Babel on the counter as well.

When I was sticking up for kuyt in another of the many kuyt threads I always thought he would do better in an attacking midfield role. And many shot me down (bad bob !) but in that role he has been played and I am liking him there, how many times has he used his work ethic to get back and defend, tackle then bomb it forward to try make something happen in attack. I think this is one of the few times I am right in my argument, and your damn right im sticking to it !

Kuyt is very good as an attacking midfielder !

Kuyt's good at running his heart, socks and probably bollox off, other than that no. He doesn't exactly fill me with confidence when he gets into crossing positions or goal scoring positions and his simple 5 yard passing still needs improving.

His basic skills are not good enough for any premiership side. If you're looking for a runner and someone to do the donkey work then there's nobody better than Kuyt, and right now that's his job.

??? Well whoever it was John, he wasn't been serious surely? Kennedy was one of the best players to wear the shirt IMHO, a fantastic footballer who was cultured with the sweetest left-foot you'd see. He scored loads of goals from midfield too.

If the comparison is based on the fact they both played up front and then played in midfield, both have two legs, are male etc etc then fair enough. Any comparisions in terms of football ability though are miles off, the two players are from a different stratosphere entirely.

I think BTW that Dirk has done an excellent job recently and I couldn't be happier for him. This comparison though is like comparing Peter Crouch to Peter Beardsley, so different in approach and ability are the two players.

Kuyt is a great crosser of the ball. How about this. Is it because the players dont make the runs necessary to turn a good cross into a great cross? The same could be given to alonso, is his passing off or is it that the players just aint giving the runs to make it a great pass?

the thoughts exactly in me head when I heard it Mick.

First off, Kennedy played more as a central midfield to left wing whereas Kuyt is on the right. Secondly, they're completely different players, Kennedy was more like a Paul Scholes...coasting into the box to win headers or on the edge of the box from knock downs by Big Tosh.

It was a silly comparison, but I thought I'd mention it to see if people thought there was any reasoning in comparing them together.
