Nemeth posses so much quality and vision, and can turn on the selfishness or selflessness at at will, just imagine if his partner was torres instead of Brouwer, but I guess he would be going against prem defense instead of ressie defense, but still he just looks so much better than the players he is going against.

ABLETT TARGETS MORE SUCCESS
Paul Hassall 07 April 2008
Gary Ablett has set his sights on winning the Reserve League final after his side won 1-0 at Blackburn Rovers to clinch the northern title.
The Reds coach admits he was delighted to secure what is Liverpool's 17th Reserve league title and revealed he made sure the full complement of his squad travelled to Morecambe's Christie Park so that they could all enjoy the moment.

"It's great," Ablett told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"We got all the players together at the end, including the ones who weren't in the 16, because I felt it was important for them to come and be a part of everything.

"They weren't in the 16 but they've driven everyone on in training and without them and their contribution in training, we wouldn't be in the position we are in now, so we are very happy to have won the northern division.

"But we've not really won anything yet, the job now is to go on and beat the Southern champions at Anfield - if we can."

The northern title is Ablett's second trophy of the season after he led the Reserves to the Dallas Cup in their trip to the USA last month.

It is a superb achievement for the former Reds defender, who insists it isn't about silverware at this level and instead takes more pleasure from seeing the likes of Damien Plessis progress to the first-team, after the midfielder made his senior bow in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal on Saturday.

"We've said before that the likes of Damien are the job," he said.

"We achieved that but until we get someone in on a regular basis then we wouldn't be happy and we hope Damien is the first of many.

"I think the way we played over the course of the season bodes well and we are hoping three or four of them can go on and make an impression on Rafa's squad.

"It's a difficult job to do, but as a group of young players it's nice for them to have achieved something."

Well done to the lads to win the league. Hopefully a fair few will be given a go next year, get rid of the deadwood in the first team and replace them with the youngsters.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Watched some of the games on the lfc channel and have been impressed with alot of the players, Nemeth looks top quality and Pacheco for his age is obviously a top top player.

Just out of interest does anyone know who is likely to be the southern champions ?

NEWS STORY
GARY ABLETT SPEAKS TO LIVERPOOLFC.TV
Paul Hassall 21 April 2008
As the Reserves prepare for their final league match of the season at home to Wigan tonight, Liverpoolfc.tv caught up with boss Gary Ablett to reflect on a magnificent campaign that could yet involve more trophy success.

Liverpoolfc.tv: It's been another busy week for you Gary reaching the final of the Liverpool Senior Cup and the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Canterbury Senior Cup. There's a good winning mentality about this team isn't there?

Ablett: I think so yes. I don't want to tempt fate but I think we've done well and we've only lost a couple of games - even if you go as far back as the first game of pre-season. But we've got two or three really important games still to play and we've just got to keep that winning mentality going for as long as possible.

You beat Wigan on Thursday 3-0 to reach the semi-final of the Lancashire Cup which featured a brilliant goal from Argentine Gerardo Bruna. How pleased are you with his progress?

Very pleased. I think Gerardo found it particularly difficult to come in and adapt at first. I think he found the physical nature of English football quite demanding but he's settled down and has got used to it. You can see how comfortable he is now, scoring goals like that and he scored an outstanding goal pretty similar to that in Dallas, albeit from the other side of the penalty area. So we know he has the quality to do things like that and you'll see a lot more of Gerardo next year.

Another starlet Spanish ace Daniel Pacheco scored the winner against Prescot Cables in the Liverpool Senior Cup. He's another one with a potentially bright future ahead of him isn't he?

Yes he is and he's similar to Gerardo. We've been careful and monitored his football. We felt that we had to with the younger players for fear of causing them damage. It was the same with Danny Ayala as well, the three of them were only 16 years of age when they arrived in pre-season, so we had to be patient with them and look after them. But now that we've done that we feel that the time was right to start throwing them in and seeing if they can actually last the 90 minutes. Gerardo and Daniel Pacheco would be lucky to last an hour earlier in the season but now we've found that because of the training and the physical routine we've designed for them, their stamina levels have improved and they can now last the 90 minutes like they did against Wigan on Thursday.

Unfortunately you've got some bad news about Pacheco for the play-off final at Anfield on May 7th haven't you?

Yes bad for us, but great for Daniel. Spain have made the European Championship finals at under-17 level and Daniel has been called up for that which is fantastic for him. So unfortunately for us he will miss the game on May 7 which is a shame because I'm sure Daniel would have added something to us. Whether we would have started with him or used him as an impact player like we did against Prescot Cables, I don't know, but he'll be a loss for us. But we wish him all the best and since England aren't in the finals I hope Spain go on and win it for his sake.

Can you feel the excitement building up from your players ahead of that game at Anfield?

I think so. We've tried not to allow the players to dwell on that too much. The game at Blackburn was the one that actually saw us win the league but as we mentioned before about this winning mentality, we've said that we've just got to keep going. Everyone's playing for places and we've just got to keep driving each other forward. The boys are really tired, I've got to say, they've played a lot of football in the last month, something like 10 or 11 games, and that's a lot of football for players of their age. They are still growing and maturing and maybe their bodies aren't ready for all that, so we've been monitoring that too.

What did you think of the performances of the team in both games against Prescot Cables and Wigan?

I think certainly the mentality of the players against Prescot was what impressed me. I felt Prescot did ever so well, they were a credit to their manager. They tried to play football and didn't try to kick us which can sometimes happen. They worked hard on the pitch, which was 100 times better than I expected it to be. It still wasn't great and not what we are used to playing on, but the boys knuckled down and handled that well. We probably learnt more about our players in that game than we would in five or six Premier Reserve League games because it took them out of an environment in which they were comfortable and playing on nice pitches. We managed to tough it out and to be fair the game could have gone either way. Right up until extra-time they were in it, but I think it took its toll in the end. Then Danny Pacheco came up with the goods and although he had a bit of luck with a bobble in the middle of his run I thought the way he took the goal was very good.

It's been quite a season hasn't it winning the league?

We've done remarkably well. We said as a group of people that we would like to achieve something this season if it was possible, but also not get away from the main focus of our job. That is to get someone through to the first-team. Okay Damien (Plessis) has played, but we'd like that to be more in the future and that's the nature of our job. If we finished in mid-table next year but three or four were involved with the first-team squad on a regular basis, then that would probably be more important for me.

You will receive the league trophy at half time during the first team's final home game against Manchester City. How much are you looking forward to that?

I'm looking forward to it. I think it's a tremendous bonus for the kids who have worked ever so hard, to go out there and hopefully get a massive cheer from the Anfield crowd. It also gives us an opportunity to promote the game the following Wednesday, so yes, we are really looking forward to it and hopefully the score at half-time will be in the first-team's favour as well so everyone will be happy.

After Wigan tonight you have the Liverpool Senior Cup final against Marine - what kind of test will that pose for the players?

It's another tough test. We played against them last year in a friendly and beat them 1-0 in a very, very difficult game. The pitch is really tight and not as big as the one we played on at Prescot, so again we will find out a bit more about our players. At the end of the day it's a final and there's a trophy to play for so that should be all the incentive we need.

Rafa Benitez this week spoke warmly about the prospect of Emiliano Insua figuring for the first team in the final league matches. As a former left back for Liverpool how much progress has he made this season?

He's made a lot of progress, as have the majority of our young players. If you had said to me at the start of the season that we would have sent eight, nine or 10 of the senior reserve players out on loan and that I'd have to cope with the young group that have just come in, I'd have thought we would struggle. But credit to the younger group, they've knuckled down and tried to take on board what we have tried to teach them and we've reaped the benefits from that. If the first-team can wrap up fourth place with games to spare it may give the manager a chance to throw the likes of Emiliano in, Damien Plessis again, Krisztian Nemeth and Mikel San Jose. The list goes on and we have six or seven in there, who if they haven't fulfilled their potential quite yet, they could go on next season make an impact.

How far can he go in the game?

I think that's up to Emiliano. He has the ability. He's just got to make sure that mentally he is right and he's prepared. The language can be a bit of a problem at times but he is coming along with his English. The manager can speak Spanish to him, but I sometimes find it hard to communicate with him at times but I do have the help of Angel and Antonio to do that. To answer your question though, he can go as far he wants to go, it's up to him. He has unquestionable ability - we've just got to make sure his mentality and his attitude are right before he goes and plays.

And finally, how is Ryan Crowther who we saw leave the field with a serious looking injury in the last game against Manchester City?

Well, thankfully, he's off the crutches and walking. We were quite fearful after the game because it looked quite nasty and we thought he might have broken his ankle or the bottom of his leg. But he's had x-rays and a scan and thankfully there's no break. His foot is very swollen and looks very, very sore, so unfortunately it looks like the season is over for Ryan. We are all really upset for him because he's had a lot of injuries in his first year since coming in from Stockport and he's never really had a run of staying fit and a proper go at the games. It'll be like having a new player next year with Ryan and hopefully if we can get him over his injury problems. He's another who has bags of potential. He's very, very quick, runs well with the ball and is a good crosser too. We are hoping that next preseason we can bring him to the fore and give him a lot of football as well.

a great read :D  there is so much talent in our reserve and youth teams now and rafa keeps adding more and more, i like this policy and i can see 5 or 6 of them breaking into the first team squad in the next 2seasons

Tomorrow is the Reserve Super Bowl or whatever its called. Too bad Pacheco is on U17 duty for Spain. I think this game might serve as a try out for two or three open slots against Spurs

"Jay Spearing, Ray Putterill, Ryan Crowther and Daniel Ayala are all injured while Gerardo Bruno is away with Spain at the European Championships in Turkey. It would have been nice to go into the game with everyone available but it's not to be. We have great faith in the boys who will come in that they can do a good job for us tonight."   I have read other places that Pachecho is out on Spanish duty as well.   Sabre should be happy about Bruna playing for Spain because he was born in Argentina.  They take on France today to see who tops the group

4 English players in the reserve squad of 16 - shows the way the club is going these days, you'd never have seen that even 3 or 4 years ago.

Not necessarily a bad thing as we may have a couple ready for first team action next season in Plessis, Insua and maybe Nemeth, but the chances of a local lad making it into the first team these days must be tiny - looks like it's hard enough for them just to get in the reserves.

Spearing is hurt, he would be in the squad otherwise.   Don't know whats up with Pacheco, first he has to miss this game because of UEFA U17 SPain duty then he doesnt, now Bruna, who I thought was Argentinian,  is playing against France today and Pacheco is playing Villa. I hope he didn't get cut from the team.  Scotland is in the tournament as well, I hope that Gary Mackay-Steven is on that team or else I wonder what we are doing with a Scottish lad that can't even get into that team.

Team should look like:
                                Gulacsi
Darby        San Jose                 Huth     Insua
Flynn            Lucas                 Plessis      El Zhar
                  Brouwer              Nemeth
Plessis to hold, Lucas to get more forward. Brouwer to be the "target" man and Nemeth to be absolutely LETHAL

Hope to see pacheco, lindfield and Simon on

Peper, a U16 player, has played well for the U18s of late. I think he went to Dubai with them as well as America.  Haven't heard much from that trip though.
