Numrous factors in varying proportions, the quality of the squad springs to my mind as one of the most pertinent factors - particularly quality on the wings, quality full backs who can overlap, and never ever having a striker of the Owen (because he wanted top leave), Fowler (because he was well past his best), Torres (because we couldn't afford it) calibre in their prime, until now.

I don't know the comparitive stat's because it's not for me to prove that rotation/"Rafa style" doesn't work and breed consistency
