Stevie Hieghway could of come out of retirement and put a shirt on and as old as he is would of done a better job than Babel or Yossi last night.

Until Babel and Kuyt switched Carra was having to graft twice as hard. He had no back up or cover from Babel, I said last night in another post he must of been made up when Kuyt came on the right, At least then he new if he went inside Kuyt would fill in. Babel needs to learn positional play imo , Many times in the game last night when Carra had the ball and was looking for him to show for it , he was more in the middle wandering than out on the wing

I agree that we have to improve, but they have made mistakes aswell. It's common to make more mistakes in this high tension games.

BTW how many French have Arsenal? with the little French I understand, I'd say the french tv commentators support Arsenal like their national team!

in the first 11 , they have only gael clichy and the manager wenger

You forgot Gallas and Flamini. Plus they have Sagna and a lot of other french-speaking people (Adebayor, Toure, Eboue, Senderos come to mind).

Didn't you know.....you are not allowed to criticise players such as Alonso, Kuyt and Babel if they have a bad game in this forum.... No sir.......

We conceded one goal, at the emirates, against an arsenal team camped in our half for the second 45. If thats not solid what is?

Just because we conceded only one goal doesn't mean we defended solidly, their finishing was poor and they were denied what looked a giveable penalty against Kuyt.

Their goal was dreadful, their were four defenders forming a square around Adebayor and none near him. The sooner Rafa works out his defensive system is what costs us the goals, the sooner we can talk about winning the league and not look complete tools.

We were as good as them for the first half, what went wrong? But for poor marking we could have won it, instead we were defending and relying on a bit of luck to keep the scores level.

And I agree with comments on Babel, he isn't the best retainer of possession and doesn't do enough when he does keep the ball to do his job effectively. I hope Benayoun comes in for the league game, I expect there to be a few changes, and perhaps he can show what he can do in the same role.

Those on Kuyt's back before must be finding it hard to swallow that he scored his SIXTH goal in Europe this season and could well do a Garcia and have found a crucial goal. I think his confidence is shot, if only he'd get in the box a lot more and get in more shots I think he'd be ok. Quite who the anti-Kuyts think is going to play that role is another matter, maybe Voronin or Benayoun but whatever happened to backing the player? Kuyt's started all but one of the last ten games and we've won eight, drawn one and lost to the mancs. And in those ten games he's scored as many goals as Pennant has all season, go back one game to Barnsley and he scored our goal then too.

As for the return leg, we must be confident, that's our first draw away to Arsenal and CL is always a different game to the domestic games. We could try holding out for a draw but only once in their last six visits have Arsenal failed to score.

P6 W3 D1 L2 F12 A12 (Clean Sheets : 1)

And away to Arsenal in the same period :

P4 W0 D1 L3 F3 A9 (Clean Sheets : 0)

And so overall since Rafa took over :

P10 W3 D2 L5 F15 A21 (Clean Sheets : 1)

Not much hope of a clean sheet, if the game goes to past form there's a 50% chance they'll win the game, BUT as it's at Anfield you could make a case for their being only a 33.33% chance of them winning and a 50% chance of us winning. The chances of a 0-0 are pretty slim

It was a good result, but frankly they should have won, the second half we looked pretty bad, although at the start we seemed to control the game.

I was disapointed with the midfield, they were controlling the play in the second half and we missed some good opportunities on the counter.

I hate to say this but Babel was very poor, his touch was letting him down and he did nothing useful in the game (except maybe for that powerless shot  on target). I can't believe you are arguing on Kuyt, however, it was a poacher's goal :D, perfect timing on the ball between two defenders, and he hit a very good volley later on, he was the only player who tested Almunia yesterday.

And about the changes, well I was really disapointed with the last change, as Voronin seemed out of the world; Crouch could have done more to keep the ball, and it will add to the tension with the manager aswell. However, Wenger's subs were more helpful to us really, Van Persie was much more dangerous than Walcott (maybe he was injured ?) and Bendtner was our secret defensive weapon and did nothing right the whole evening.

I just hope we can get a win with our rotated team at Emirates, that would really blow their confidence  :buttrock

The problem with babel is that he is sooooooo one footed. So it is indeed baffling to see him play on the left...

He might get away by playing on the left in an inferior league or the under 21 international matches..but in the best and the MOST ACTION PACKED league in the world, he really looks sub-par....

I think he would do more damage on the right hand side...... But like always rafa has some wierd reason in insisting him to play on the left...(IMO....to accomodate kuyt)...

Four words to compliment him followed by fifty words or so putting him down so that you feel you are right. He was MOM in an important game (just in case you did not notice). You do not have to have a dig, just leave it as "he played well".

How about wishing he plays this way every game rather than implying it was a fluke.

well when i start giving two f*cks about what you think then I will consider it.

or maybe you should just accept that kuyt is sh*t,

Normally when people do not care they don't respond, not go on to explain themselves for a page.

Kuyt was the player who influenced the result the most therfore MOM. He did not do it with with flair and pretty play but rather he did it with 100% effort and commitment. He scored the goal (you know that 6 yard ball trap), ran as much as anyone on the field (including Arsenal players) and made key interceptions in defence that prevented us from losing. Worthy of praise (for this game at least).

You seem bitter he played well. I thought you had to support to be a supporter.

No need for you to respond as we know you do not care what we think (Jedi mind trick).

To be fair to Babel , whenever he ahd the ball , arsenal sent toure and eboue to close him down , this shows that babel is a threat .

Torres not the best games i reckon but he was isolated , well done kuyt lad , welldone , deffo man of the match , ran ur socksoff and got us that all important away goal

Sad truth is a lot of fans on forums and off forums like to make a lot of bold statements and don't even check their facts, that is assuming they know any. What makes it so sad is that most people can name a handful of French Arsenal players like they can name a handful of Spanish Liverpool players, but still people go in with brains in neutral.

Has anyone seen Thommo's reaction to the goal? He'd make Andy Gay look neutral
