I think we can near enough say he won't be here next season after Rafa's comments*, and rightly so in my view.

It's time to get rid and bring in a top quality left winger.

*
'They play two games and he is not playing here (on his call up for the Socceroos), so it is good that he goes with them and plays to get fit.

'I have given him permission because he was not playing for us at the moment. So it is positive for him and his national team that he plays for them.

'The contract will be more difficult for him, if he plays well for Australia and comes back fit he could have a part to play at the end of the season.

'But his situation could become more difficult. I will make a decision at the end of the season.'

KEWELL KEEN TO EARN NEW DEAL
Paul Eaton 20 March 2008
Harry Kewell today spoke of his determination to win a new contract at Liverpool at the end of the season.
Kewell is currently away with the Australian national side preparing for Saturday's friendly with Singapore and the forthcoming World Cup qualifier against China.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez gave his permission for Kewell to travel to the other side of the world at a time when the Reds are embarking on their most challenging period of the season, but he also admitted the 29-year-old will find it 'difficult' to earn a new deal when his present one expires at the end of this season.

"I've got a contract until the end of the season and I'm still fighting for another one at Liverpool," he said. "I've got the Aussie spirit of never say die and I'll take that all the way to the end. I won't give up until the final whistle.

"The best thing for me is to get some games so I can be fighting fit for Liverpool. There's a chance here to play two games and the manager was very happy for me to come across.

"I've just got to play football. I've been through some good times and bad times and I've realised now that I just want to enjoy my football. That's the important thing."

[B] Well methinks he is as good as gone.good riddance...

You know once Rafa has made up his mind, he will never change his decision. Just like no matter how bad Kuyt plays, he will continue to get a lot of starting line-up.  No matter how well Kewell plays in the reserves, he is not gonna get any playing time anymore.

see you later Kewell.

We've been paying his wages for far too long, time to get rid. I never understood what people saw in him, yes he was fairly good at Leeds but he's been sh1t for us.

It's sad that we'll never see the world-class prospect that we signed from Leeds and Harry seem's a good bloke, but he has contributed little during his time here and I think it is time for Liverpool and Kewell himself to move on.

And I think they will.

I think its a shame if Kewell leaves now, especially as he has promised so much an delivered so little. A season and a half of good foot ball from Kewell in 5 years says it all really. Apart from that he has either been struggling with injury , recovering from injury, injured or just about to become injured.

I really was expecting a lot more than he has show in his last few appearances for us, and I am disappointed that his attitude seems to be one of "nothing to prove" rather than trying to win a new contract.

I still hope he comes back, turns it on and wins a "pay as you play" contract, but my hopes are already dwindling as it now appears that Rafa has finally exausted all patience with him.

Could have been as good as any winger in the prem (excluding Ronaldo)but that boat has long since sailed :( . I still feel he could do a job for us but maybe that boat has sunk.

bigmick wrote:Well in the short term we've got to keep him as we ain't got anybody else it's as simple as that. Longer term, unfortunately for Kewell I don't think he has the tools any longer to play at the top level as a left midfielder on a consistent basis.

If you look at the way he plays the game I think most agree that he's never been a line worker, a tracker backer who works the full back and the right midfielder with his engine and tackling. I'm thinking Kind of a Gereth Barry, Steve Stone type of player here. For me he's always been much more of a proper winger, a creater, a crosser and a man who would terrorise the full-back enough that the defender wouldn't dare venture forward rather than actually follow him if he does. He's terrorised him with his pace, trickery, skill and a willingness to cut inside and hit it if he sees the opportunity.

Well nowadays the pace doesn't appear to be there anymore. He tends to cross it from in front of the full-back these days (still fairly effectively I'll give him that), while he doesn't track inside with the ball anywhere near as often. He also doesn't appear quite so striong on the ball in terms of protecting it these days, and his tracking back which was never greatis now negligable. In short, whereas before he was at his best an affordable luxury player, these days he is a bit too pricey in terms of what he brings to the team and what he costs.

All that said and in terms of balance, if Gerrard were to move to the right and cause the general mayhem which he does from out there, then we may get another year or two out of Kewell. Thee's no questio though that if you had a decent left sided player it would make a huge difference to our team. I personally think that Villa conducted a shrewd piece of business when they picked up Ashley Young for about 10 mill'. Though I really rated him, I though the fee was toppish but having seen him in a few games recently I'm not quite so sure now. Somebody like him, or Arteta or barry would make a big difference to us I should think.

good post mate, but lacking the 1 most important thing
for me for a player on his wages etc - attitude!!

goodbye harry, don"t make your departure long & lenghthly
it will only make matters worse!

Thats strange  ???

There was so much support for Harry Kewell from a large quantity of LFC fans. Even though the promising form he showed at leeds, he left there when he signed for LFC.

The only thing I cant muster is, how come Rafa stood by him, and played him in two CL finals after such long lay-offs, esp. considering he let loads of other players leave the club after such short spells. ie; Bellamy, Garcia, Fowler, Etc.

Kewell must have been the best player in training behind closed doors , he must have nutmegged carra, flicked the ball of Stevies head, back-heeled it past mascherano , shimmy'd it past kuyt, nutmegged, Riise, and flicked it up and over-head bicycle kicked it from 30 yards out into the top corner every day in training!!!!!! for Rafa to keep such faith.

Because I tell you what, we never got to see it.

He got the easiest pay packet ever, with a 2.5 year sick note.

either way, however tasty his missus is, he never did quite enough to earn a new contract.

Fernando has done that in 6 months !  10 X Fold !

Thats the difference.

Just seen this on sky sports news.....Harry Kewell to CAPTAIN Australia against Singapore in the upcoming match.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

I scored a goal just like that last night, except for against players of a lesser calibre of course.  :eyebrow
