Title? - Possibility?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Don't waste your time predicting what results would be needed in the run-in for us to lift the title, it's not going to happen this season.

Our objectives should be:

1 - Restore some pride by beating United on their own patch (we must be due a win against them)

2 - Beat Everton in the derby, which I think would make it difficult for them to come back and claim 4th.

3 - Keep momentum going in the league so we at least get 4th

4 - Obviously, the Champions League.

not a chance I'm afraid.

we wont finish in the top 2 let alone top... 3rd - maybe if arsenal continue to slide, but we wont finish above utd or chelsea. fact.

Optomism is one thing, but realism... just look above us in the table.

Chelsea have not lost for 15 games. The last time they lost in the league was arsenal away. There's no way they're gonna lose to man city (who've only won one in 8 matches, and are on a downwards slide) or lose to spurs, or even draw with newcastle as some hope for.

Utd's game in hand is at home to bolton which they'll win and go 11 points ahead of us with 8 games to play. and they will beat both villa and blackburn. As much as I hate the scum... they not cr@p

Arsenal in their bliip at the moment (long may it continue) - but still, they have only lost 1 game all season and to expect them to lose 3 in 8 games is a bit far fetched.

Yes, it is still mathematically possible for us to claim top spot. But it is highly highly unlikely. The teams around us are not as bad as we'd like to beleive, and I still think we'll be fighting for 4th

If Man Utd get a draw at Bolton in mid week, and we beat them at Old Trafford while Arsenal and Chelsea get a draw at Stamford Bridge next week, we will be 6 points of the top with 7 games left for all 4 teams.

Then we would be in with a shout. But it would be slim at best.

The problem is that we won't win all our games until the end of the season.

If we do win all our games until the end of the season, then I beleive we could realistically be champions because I do see the other teams dropping points.

i just can't see the top 3 teams dropping that many points.

Will Bolton get a draw at Old Trafford?  I doubt it, in fact i think they'll get battered 4-0.  But you never know, perhaps a few surprising results might shake things up. If Chelsea and Arsenal get a draw that might give us the chance to get 3rd, but that's as high as i see us going this year.

i blame rotation and bigmicks ability to post novel size articles :p

Its maticmatically possible but i'm ruling it out , we have to concentrate on 4th spot and win at OT and emirates , i don't see why not we are in golod form and can get something at old traford and emirates , arsenal are now dipping

They will drop points against either villa or blackburn , they are no push overs , if they do and draw against bolton and we beat them at OT then yes we can be champions  :D

Same chance as everton overtaking our title records

I'm at least encouraged by the fact that it is a question worthy of debate.

If Spurs beat Chelsea in midweek, and say Bolton nab a win at Old Trafford - suddenly next Sunday's fixtures become even more tasty. If we win every one of our games, the onus is on everyone else to deliver in their fixtures, and I really don't see any of the top 3 finishing the season without dropping some points.

I think the title's beyond us, but 3rd is definitely possible, and maybe a cheeky 2nd isn't yet past the realms of possibility. What a missed opportunity the season has turned out to be - we really could've been properly in the thick of it all at this stage.

why dont liverpool aim to win all games, then if they fall short, then 3rd is not unrealistic is it.

if lfc concentrate just on 4th, as you say, and then fall short, that would be disastrous.

its like in exams, aim for the highest grade and if you fall short, you'll still pass

simple really

Yes correct but don't forget even if we beat the mancs and arsenal , they still have points advantage over us and they have to drop points equal to that for us to overtake them

Everton just lost to fulham so that means we're 3 points ahead so i think we should rest a couple of players at against them, bring torres on if needs be.If we get a result at old trafford then hopefully we'll have 4th.

Because people believe the title is out of our reach, wat games would u rest some of ur players before the 3 games with arsenal.I just think everton would be the game to rest players.

It's gonna be hard to get all the results becuase i seen people say after the reading match the team looked tired.

To the rose-tinted brigade....

All this "well...i told u rotation works" should be held back until we get through our next 5 matches.

It can still all go wrong...so lets not jump the gun here.

Have to agree with , we did not really create spectacular against reading , we should play a full strength team against manure and rest some players against everton . Maybe don't play masch , replace him with lucas , don't drop torres not in the goal scoring form that he is in

I think it's a difficult decision on torres because i would definatly play him against the mancs but dnt want him to be knackered for the 3 arsenal matches where we need him badly..

Torres plays every game now for me.

Aside from Man U and Arsenal, we should be able to haul him off early enough for him to get a bit of rest between games. Absolutely pointless to put him to one side when he's in this kind of form though.
