Xabi.....right or wrong? - Was xabi right to put his new born ahead

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Just a little teaser, but wondered how people felt about Xabi putting his baby in front of potentially our biggest game of the season las nite.

I was there for my kids births, but then i'm replaceable at work......Xabi maybe aint quite so dispensable when on form. I appreciate he aint hittin the heights of previous seasons, but maybe thats a reason to stay with the team.

Rafa set a standard in that Super Cup when his father died and he stayed in Japan, so was Xabi doin the right thing?

He was right to stay. Xabi's replaceable for us, he's not replaceable for his girlfriend/baby. Imagine her face when Lucas appears in the delivery room to fill in for Xabi while he plays in Milan

I was under the impression Rafa only stayed in Japan because he couldn't get back in time for the funeral. I'm sure if it was possible he'd have returned.

its a hard one this mate, but i don't think we can slate him for this decision, but thats with hindsight. and who is to say with him in the team we would have won anyway, and who is to say he wouldn't have just been sat on the bench.

this is something he can't go back and do again with this baby so fair play to him and it all worked out in the end.

I just wish kuyt was handsome and had many women who he got pregnant and if they could time those births for every saturday, sunday, tuesday and wednesday and hope he wants to attend all the births then we can all be happy

I personally think he should have gone and played, but then again I'm being a bit of a hypocrite as I was there for the birth of both my kids and it was an amazing experience. The difference if there is one is that I was running a boozer at the time and it didn't make a sh!te of difference if I was there or not, and I wasn't getting paid 50K a week to do it.

All that said Xabi is and has been a model pro' at Liverpool, and if he felt as strongly as he obviously did that he wanted to be there come what may, then it's probably best to just respect his wishes, not read into it some kind of lack of desire and passion for the club on his part, and move on.

Yes he was right to put his newborn ahead, and Rafa was right to leave him out.

There should be no hard feelings between the two.

My main concern now is the relationship between Xabi and Rafa..... If Xabi rekindles his form he's devastatin and a bonus to any midfield. Wudn wanna lose him over this.

Remember what happened when Paco pi$$ed the boss off........

I don't think anyone can criticise the decision to stay, as it was she had the baby while the team was away, and who knows, his missus might have had a condition or illness associated with the pregnancy.

As for Kuyt well he doesn't need to be a looker, he has enough money he could go and buy a few mail order Thai brides.... :p

He wasn't wrong to be there for the birth but he was wrong for putting her in a family way when he did.  Do the math, Xabi--if you're getting some play in June she's going to "drop the sprog" (love that, Igor! :D ) in March, right when you're needed most.  Irresponsible! :no :D

The last line is a key one to settle my opinion. Rafa hasn't asked Xabi anything that wouldn't ask to himself.

IMHO Xabi should have stayed with the team.

Its an awkward one this, and i do see both sides.
I was at the birth of my own kids and i suppose any man would want to be there. Family is always first in most peoples feelings.
But i can see what bigmick is saying, if you are a professional sportsman you are not doing a normal everyday job, you are being paid ridiculous amounts of money to be there to represent your club when needed.
Micks post is balanced enough and right....i wouldnt think badly of Xabi for not playing. I wouldnt question his commitment or anything, it was something that may only come round once in his life and he will always now have great memories.
But i think he should of played.

Thankfully it doesnt matter now and it can all be forgotten about, i doubt rafa will hold something like that against him.

He's hardly Steven Ireland blagging nans deaths and that  :D

I agree with Igor. I was there for all my kids births and it really is something special and not to be missed.

What happens if it was last game of the season in the premier league, we need to win it to win the title, and all of Masherano and Lucas are injured.  Should Xabi play?
