INTER MILAN vs LIVERPOOL: CL-11/03/08 - 2nd Leg - Build up and Match Discussion

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Hats off top the manager. I was desperate to see Carra play at Centre-half and not Right-back but it worked just fine and Skrtel was one of our best players (if not the best) along with the little menace that is Mascherano.

Rode our luck a bit plus we got some help from the ref (never a 2nd yellow for me) but it was a good professional performance. It's a credit to Benitez (regardless of the epl form) because I think the majority of fans almost expected the team to go out and do the job tonight. Again, i like the formation, very compact and organised in defence but the lads broke quickly and showed a bit of adventure going forwards when the opportunities arose.

As for Torres, what can you say? I think we're all running out of compliments that do him justice. We just need to find another match-winner next season and maybe we can put in a real challenge.

I thought it was a top performance, but the contribution of Reina shouldn't be overlooked. His save low down to his right after about ten minutes was right out of the very top drawer and I believe had a massive effect on the eventual outcome of the tie. He really is a fantastic goalkeeper.

The only blights on an otherwise brilliant effort overall, were the performances of Lucas who I though was poor to be honest (and I really rate him so that was disappointing), and the occasional glimpses of the worst side of Kuyt. Lucas I think committed into tackles far too early and went to ground too cheaply as well as giving the ball away too often, while Dirks attempt to control the misplaced pass accross the area which could have put him made me embarassed for him. His first touch was further than I can kick it and unfortunately demonstrated the limitations which his workrate although prodigious, just can't hide.

Ooops, i forgot about Reina (have had a few) who was our best player on the night. Agree with you mate, i wouldn't swap him for any keeper in the world, not Cech, not Buffon and not Canizares. Comfortably the best on the epl if you ask me and i'm surprised he doesn't get  a little more credit outside of Liverpool fans in this country.

We just beat Italys best home and away very professionally and I think Rafa deserves a lot of praise for this. It will be interesting to see if we won the game because of the ref.

F*ck em!

I was just thinking the same thing. I mean, how many more f*cking finals do we have to get to. How many more so called "class teams" do we have to dispose of like it were a stroll in the park do these d*ckhead press and pundits have to sit up and say, "Oh, Liverpool are a good side. They're still in it. I fancy them to win it. They're dead good they are!"

No. They won't! Cause they're all biased and blind pr*cks!

I wouldn't hold your breath on this one. All of the media, sky included are manc biased, especially that Richard Keys pr*ck. Like you say, if manure had the same results we would never hear the last of it. W@nkers the lot of them.
From Shankly to Brendan we follow our team, Rome to Istanbul we've all lived the dream. Our journey is long, our goal stays the same, to keep for our children the famous red name.

Superb result!...... Well made up.

Watched the match at a mate's place last night and I can barely keep me eyes open this morning. The ONLY dissapointment for me, was that I couldn't get plastered as I had to work this morning.

The lads played brilliantly though we were a little pensive in the 1st half.
I suppose I could analyse this and be able to find something to comment about but frankly, right now..... I couldn't be @rsed.

Just basking in the glow of this win. One of the lads at work, whose a Manc btw, just muttered under his breath that he hopes they don't get us in the next round... That single utterance just made my whole effin day!  :D

What a goal by Torres by the way... class act!

I thought reina was the man of the match, great positioning, good going after crosses, and some good early saves. For me, they broke us down toooo many times for comfort and its our luck that they couldn't even test Reina most of the time.  I thought Stevie had a LOT of errant passes, was very frustrating.

Who knows, the press could go as far as saying he rested 5 players rather then rotating them then may be on par with darlings of English Press such as MUFC

Fantastic result and all credit to Rafa and boys under what has been difficult times but i couldnt give  a toss about the biased press.

We are ok. Turn 4 of the draws into wins and well...........

We aint that far off.

:censored: love this club, what a great performance. Yet again we have shown everyone (inc. our own fans) that we are proven pedigree.

Jeff Shreeves I think it was, asked Rafa a stupid question.

He wanted to know if Alonso had damaged his relationship with Rafa and the club, simply because he wanted to be with his lady when she gave birth.

Andy Gray, Richard Keys and Jeff Shreeves.

Brilliant game! Its a joy to watch us play so well!, A very professional shift was put in tonight, Mascherano was fantastic and bossed the centre of the field (is it me or has his long passing to the flanks improved by like x300). The sending of wont helps us in the media, but ive grown to ignore it now. Rafa showed his true class today. Finnally Liverpool have turned a corner and took 10 paces forward! As masch said on the LFC site, winning the leauge is fractionally still possible. With players like Torres and Gerrard playing at the best and Arsenal constantly dropping points i think we're capable of finnishing higher then 4th this season! Especially if we win our next 4 games in current fashion. Making Arsenal/ManUre/Everton drop 3 points each would certainly spice it up.

Come on you reds!
