Gerrard: this isn't good enough - Captain keeping it real like me  =)

Haven't we heard all this before? ???

I don't think a week has gone by were we haven't had one of the players appearing in the press saying things like:

"It's not good enough, we must improve."
"Our season starts here."
"It's time we stand up and be counted."
:sleep

This is basically the same from Gerrard and yet we see nothing like it on the pitch.
To be fair Gerrard has carried the team on his own in recent years but even he is guilty of under performing this season and at times looks like he's thrown his toys out of the pram.

Personally I'd sooner see some action on the pitch than the players bleating on about it in the press.

If it was Carra saying the same thing it would be..... About time someone said it. Great to see how much Carra cares about Liverpool etc etc. Because its Gerrard, its put down as whinging Gerrard.

:no

But he is whinging Saint, he likes a good whinge does our Gerrard.

He is only saying what most of us have been thinking. This season has been p!ss poor again , with only a couple of good wins in the CL lifting our season.

Take the CL wins against Marseille,Porto and Inter out , and who have we beaten this season ?

Our best results are probably Everton when we won with 2 penalties and a dodgy refereeing decision, and Villa when we won with a great free kick from a dodgy refereeing decision.

Yes we had a bad decision go against us against Chelsea ,but we still had 30mins to try to change it. Arsenal got a deserved draw and probably should have won. The mancs did what they usually do and took all 3 points. For the rest just a mixed bag of results.

We were a team supposedly equiped to make a challenge for the title this season, we are struggling to make a challenge for 4th place.

Can you blame him for being upset? Every year we hear the same thing ..... next season we will challenge for the title, we are just a winger and a striker short etc etc

No mate I don't think he's whinging .... just telling it like it is. A p!ss poor season that can only possibly be saved by a CL WIN.

I'm not disagreeing with what he is saying (see another one of my posts) my problem is with some of the language he uses. Gerrard has a habit of turning all of these things back on himself.

I'm not disagreeing with what he is saying (see another one of my posts) my problem is with some of the language he uses. Gerrard has a habit of turning all of these things back on himself.

He has scored 17 goals and has the highest number of assists of any Liverpool player, all this whilst struggling with an early season injury and "playing badly".

I agree he sometimes overdoes the "MR Me" bit , and his timing could have been better for this article, but maybe he wants the team to focus on the upcoming league games rather than just the Inter game?

He probably knows better than anyone that the chances of major transfers in over the next few years are virtually nil unless DIC manage to cut a deal. A new manager may result in yet another " 5 year plan" and squad rebuilding. If he is unsettled, I don't think you can blame him too much. He has seen our club taken over by cowboys, our new stadium postponed, our managers future called into question.

I think he has more than a few genuine reasons why he's a little upset.

Rafa: The skipper speaks for us all
by Ben Blackmore, 28 February 2008

Rafa Benitez has responded to Steven Gerrard’s assessment of Liverpool’s ‘unacceptable’ season by revealing he completely agrees.

Gerrard delivered a refreshingly honest appraisal of The Reds’ season, which once again sees them fighting for fourth spot – not the title, claiming he is 'sick and tired' of talking about next season.

The Liverpool captain’s comment have drawn ridiculous press attention from the morning papers – suggesting Gerrard is at odds with Benitez and could even leave in the summer.

Benitez rubbishes such a suggestion though, insisting he understands Gerrard entirely.

“Everyone at Liverpool shares Steven’s sentiments, there is no question about that,” Benitez said in The Liverpool Echo.

“We wanted to be further up the table and the fact that we are not is a disappointment to everyone.”

Benitez did call for focus on the one piece of silverware Liverpool can realistically still win though, after Gerrard belittled the Champions League by claiming it will not quash his disappointment even if The Reds win the trophy this season.

“The important thing now is to concentrate on what we can still do,” stated Benitez.

“We are still in the Champions League and our record in that competition is one that most other clubs would envy.

“And we are still confident of finishing in the top four, which would obviously mean we would qualify for next season’s Champions League again.”

Of course now Rafa has agreed, Gerrards statements will be viewed in a different light :p

Gerrard spot on, Benitez jumping on the bandwagon :D (no doubt people will take that serious)

Benitez again though, having to mention the European Cup. Doesn't he realise that it's statements like these why people find him arrogant. He's trying to justify this season's disgrace by banging on about Europe. If we go out in the next round to Lyon (because that's who we're getting) what will his excuse be then?
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

You have rose tinted specs don't year , captain has the right to blast the team and whatever he has said is all true , even if we win the champions league , it does not make up for the fact that even with our strongest squad this season since rafa has taken over , we have been so poor .  :buttrock rock on Stevie

Gerrard is an extremely good player, yes, he has done some magnificent things for the club but there are other chapters of his career that he can be less than proud of, such as his whinging in 2004 and 2005 (particularly before the Olympiakos match, which was disgraceful and put the whole team and manager under pressure, and what's more, people seem to forget that prior to scoring the third goal and winning all the plaudits, he had a terrible game and nearly cost Liverpool the tie with some wildly reckless challenges borne out of his own personal frustration) and whinging about being played out on the right.

Gerrard should follow his own advice and do his talking on the pitch.

It's not all me, me, me.

When it comes to speak of improve drastically, he talks about "we".  :D

To be honest I don't think there's much wrong in these words. When the team is not getting the expected goals and the fans are unhappy, this kind of self-criticism is well received by the fans. He doesn't try to find excuses but he says they must improve. Not bad message, and not that I think the timing is bad neither, I disagree Scott there.

How many times has he dug us out of the ditch?  Stevie has always stepped up , olympiakos was one example , he said he did not want to wake up and be in the uefa cup , he got the goals to get us through , he upped his games , some others examples would be  Ac milan ? West ham in the Fa cup final ? Derby recently? Inter to secure a 2-0 lead ? Villa this season? He has lead by example so many times and has saved us so many times , the captain can't always be doing it on his own ? We're not a 1 man team , we have players capable of stepping up but need a good kick up the backside , the others players need to step up and stop thinking that stevie will always produce magic and dig us out of the ditch . He has let his skills do the talking and has always performed 9 times outta 10 , so for u to say that is absolute b0llox

Gerrard Title Dream Odds On To Become Nightmare
Liverpool 4/7 NOT to win title in next five seasons, but:
GEE, STEVIE, YOU WILL LAST LONGER THAN RAFA !

Steven Gerrard is 9/2 to leave Liverpool before the first day of next season with William Hill who make him 1/8 to remain at the club at least until then. But Gerrard's dream of winning the Premier League title with Liverpool is an odds-on chance NOT to happen in the next five seasons, say bookmakers William Hill. 'Gerrard says it is his dream to win the title with Liverpool - but sadly for him, we believe that dream is more likely to become a nightmare' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
And Hills are betting on whether Gerrard or Rafa Benitez will survive longer at the club - and they make Stevie G 1/5 still to be there when Rafa leaves, and 10/3 vice versa.
Liverpool are 10/1 to win the Premier League title NEXT season, 2008/9, with Hills - and 5/4 to win it in or before season 2013/14 - 4/7 not to.
**Liverpool are 4/7 favourites to finish 4th in the Premier League (betting without Big Three) this season with William Hill who also offer 2/1 Everton; 7/1 Villa; 20/1 Portsmouth; 25/1 Manchester City; 50/1 Blackburn.
Hills make Liverpool 1/2 to finish above local rivals Everton who are 6/4 to do vice versa.

FFS 4/7 that we don't win the league in the next 5 years!!! No wonder Stevie is a bit p!ssed off.
