Bolton - 2nd March
West Ham - 5th March
Newcastle - 8th March
Inter - 11th March

I've been meaning to confirm who we play game before Intertoto, I had a feeling it might have been the kevolution circus in town.

We haven't won at Bolton since the much mentioned 2002/3 season, they've no fat sam in charge now but we're not exactly putting sides away at the moment. We're 8th in the form table (last six games) and could do with a confidence boosting run of wins ahead of the Intertoto game. We shouldn't rest anyone in the next two games, it's good we've two home games before the away CL match.

Is that West Ham game rearranged from when we played CL qualifiers? Arsenal got their game in hand out the way ages ago, albeit in the middle of a three game winless run. If it is then we've shown our 'class' by saving it for a crucial time to give us 4 games in 9 days

Donno mate... I got the fixture list of Soccernet.

In all honesty if we don't take maximum points from the games in the run up to that group of three games against the Manc$, blushite and the arse then we can kiss any hope of 4th spot goodbye. As it stands I think it's looking to be an ever decreasing chance that we'll make it to 4th.

Starting at Bolton in the run up to those toughies we have to do something that we haven't done there in a few years and beat them. I feel that this shouldn't be a problem game for us cos they haven't been as strong at home this season and our away form hasn't been too bad. I just fear that Rafa is gonna do his usual rotation and take it a step too far.

My Line Up:

REINA
FINNAN
CARRAGHER
HYYPIA
ARBELOA

GERRARD
ALONSO
MASHA
BABEL

TORRES
CROUCH

Rafa's Line Up:

Fuck knows!!!!

A win for us but I think it'll just be by the odd goal!!

i do think we can rest players vs newcastle cos tbh i think this is keegans new batch of players comming in soon on free transfers.

So we should rest a few before inter just to make sure also it depends on other results from now till then.

yes that west ham match was supposed to be played back in August.  And NO Kewell Did NOT play well in the ressie match, had the ball taken off of him more than anybody else on the pitch, couldn't run by any defender in a one on one. He DID have a nice last 5 minutes in which he escaped a double team and apparently got fouled resulting in a second yellow, and then his goal was nice, made the smart play of ignoring Jordy Brouwer, but had it been anybody else it would have looked a selfish play, but he made the shot so who cares.

and Alonso did play well but there was about a 10-15 minute period in which the team played well but he was anonymous, at least I didn't notice him (and I know that his impact is usually more subtle than others but really I don't think he did anything) but he still played really well for all the other parts of the game. I think he earned a spot at the San Siro with either Gerrard on the right or in a 4-5-1 with Gerrard in front of Nando. Don't see a lot of use for Xabi against Bolton. For me this game screams Crouch and Pennant. I would play Hyypia in this one, but would expect to see a LOT more of Skrtel and then Agger from here on out
                                           Reina
    Finnan             Carra                      Hyypia        Riise
   Pennant           Gerrard                   Mascherano    Babel
                        Torres                      Crouch
Subs: Martin, Arbeloa, LUCAS, YOSSI, Kuyt

Lucas for Mascha if we need to break em down, Yossi for a winger if further help is needed

It's thoroughly depressing that it has come to this, but I guess it's a sign of the times and something we are going to have to get used to. Anyway, our main rivals (Everton, Aston Villa, Man City, Portsmouth) have some tricky fixtures this weekend so we should be able to at the very least begin to narrow down the field realistically competing for the Holy Grail of fourth place during the next seven days.

While we are away at Bolton, two of our rivals (Pompey and Everton) fight it out at Fratton Park. While I'm hopeful that Portsmouth will take points off Everton my suspicion is that the bitters are on something of a roll at the moment and they will follow up their comfortable win at Man City with another three points at another ground which we didn't win at. I hope they'll decide to leave their best two players on the bench for their visit to the South Coast, but they probably won't things being as they are. A win for Everton while confirming that they are going to be determined opponents for fourth, would just about put Pompey out of it IMHO.

Man City have a Home game with Wigan, and Wigan don't get many points away from Home these days (I know). My suspicion is that Citeh will probably win and keep their dream alive for another week at least. Villa meanwhile travel to Arsenal. I've almost got to the point where I've given up waiting for the "fatigue" and "lack of sharpness" to kick in for Wengers men. Despite his reluctance to give them "rest" and "recouperation" time, they stubbornly keep running around a lot and even more infuriatingly passing the ball to each other with alarming regularity. Like the Fenchmans' seemingly anomolous ability to build a decent team without building a corresponding third World debt, we are going to hve to put his young teams ability to confound modern "Rafaist" rotational theory as just one of those things I guess. All that said, Villa too are a decent team under the guidance of their much underrated (on here anyway) manager and this will be close. My guess though is that Arsenal will continue to press for the title with a narrow win, and in so doing put Villa back into a "competing for a UEFA slot" mode.

Which brings it back to us. Well we've won our last two games, with somewhat stop-start performances. It's probably too much to ask at this late stage that we go with some selectorial consistency but needless to say I'll do it anyway. If the team which took the field against Inter is the strongest in the eyes of the manager, I'd play the same team and formation again. That's prety unlikely I know, particularly given that a few days later we have to play another match, this time against west Ham. Hopefully against Bolton and West Ham we should be goofd enough to win both even if we do go for a few "options" and "possibilities". I hope so, because it is getting down to as someone once said "squeeky bum time". I know he wasn't talking about a scrap for fourth when he said it, but no matter it applies now anyway.

4-0 Torres, Benayoun, Hyypia, Riise.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Everyone jumping to conclusions again thinking I meant scoreline  :no

They are bookings  :p

No but in all seriousness, I think we'll :censored: these :censored:, and Riise will break his duck for the season. 40 yard rocket. Plus with this, it means Riise is leftback and not Aurellio, so every game I'm hoping Riise plays  :D

A little bit of the edge has gone out of this game for me since fat Sam left, hopefully a little bit more football will be played as well. If we go into this with the right attitude it should be a comfortable win, give them a sniff of a chance with another mediocre start and we could struggle.

                      Reina

    Arbeloa    Skrtle     Carra      Riise

Benayoun    Gerrard    Masherano    Babel

                   Torres   Crouch

Anything but a win and we could begin to feel the pressure mounting even to finish fourth.
