Well we nearly had no Yossi today

Liverpool FC star Yossi Benayoun close to suicide bombing attack Feb 5 2008

By Luke Traynor, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL FC star Yossi Benayoun was caught up in a terrorist bombing horror when he visited his parents in his Israeli hometown.

The Reds midfielder was in the southern town of Dimona yesterday when Palestinian suicide bombers struck, an Israeli FA spokesman has confirmed.

The 27-year-old heard the explosions and gunfire which killed one Israeli woman and the two Palestinian bombers.

One of the attackers detonated an explosives belt at a shopping centre and his accomplice was shot dead by police before he could detonate his own belt.

Benayoun made telephone calls to check if his family and other relatives were unharmed in the blast.

His agent, who said the Kop star’s parents live about five minutes' walk from the site of the attack, said he was flooded with calls immediately after the bombing.

Gil Lebanony, spokesman for the Israeli Football Association and the national team, said Benyaoun and his family had emerged unscathed.

He told the ECHO: “Yossi was in the town when it happened, and his father was close by. Everything is ok.

“I saw both him and his father at a practice match and he was just the regular Yossi. They didn’t have a scratch.

“Terrorism is not a nice thing, but Yossi does not want to speak about this, only the football.”

Israel captain Benayoun is currently in his native country for a friendly against Romania tomorrow when he will lead his side.

His agent Ronen Katsav reportedly said: “It is a small place and he heard the explosion and the gunshots.

“He was inundated by phone calls from friends asking him if he was all right after the event.

“He is fine and will take part in the international game.”

The Reds midfielder, who came to Anfield over the summer, was born and raised in Dimona and started his career with the region's main team, Hapoel Beersheva.

Wingless wonders, I might swop Gerrard and Lucas around, but I would like to see how Lucas take to the role.

cant play diamond cos our midfield would be over run. The 2 FBs are not good enough to support the midfield imo
I'd like this with Pennant stick to the byline, SG roaming behind Torres
              Reina
Finnan   Cara  Hyppia  Risse
               Masch
       Alonso      Lucas

For me.... now's the time to play 4-5-1 in defense and 4-3-3 in attack. Something along these lines

                                  Reina

        Finnan       Carra             Hyypia     Riise

Benayoun    Gerrard    Mascherano    Lucas    Babel
       \                                                        /
        v                        Torres                     v

No point playing with a conventional 4-4-2 here as without proper wingers and an inadequate partner for Torres, we're not gonna get much joy against a Chelsea side who've got an outstanding record at home. Plus If Rafa's not gonna play Crouch, there's no point in partnering Torres with either Kuyt or Voronin.

May as well play a direct, slightly narrower style when attacking and swamping their midfield in defence.

NOTE: I picked Lucas ahead of alonso in this match as I feel that this is not the sort of game to try to get alonso to play himeself back into some semblance of his previous form

Reina, Finnan, Carra, Hyypia, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Mascheranho, Babel, Crouch, Torres.

Possibly the most attacking side we have, and I've got for this to put the fear of god into them. The reason we don't win against the top sides is because we're always so negative, especially away from home. Let's go out with the intention of winning rather than the intention of not getting beat. We've proved when we attack sides we're a much better side, lets go for the throat.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Not at all confident of this game.....But if we are to beat chelsea at SB...this is the game. They have no drogba and essien. So even without torres, this is the time to beat them. (but still think we will get beat 1-0)...

If torres is injured ... (and alonso is suspended)....

                    Reina
    Finnan   Carra  Hyppia  Riise
   Pennant   Gerrard  Mash  Benayoun
            Babel     Crouch

So no Kuyt...whatsoever....

They might have them back depending on the AFCON results tonight. They will definitely have Mikel back. The everscum also have a boost with their nigerian players back so the fight for 4th spot intensifies. We simply cant afford to loose this game.

We can't afford to lose the inter-milan game.....I think most fans will take a victory there instead of here....

no, they wont have any players back from the matches tonight because there is a 3rd/4th place playoff on saturday for the 2 countries that lose - but all nigerian players will be returning

This is match is very important to LFC, they need nothing but a win!!. I think we will be without the services of Torres, due to his injury of yesterday playing for Spain, therefore, Benitez will opted to use his babe in Kuyt as a lonely striker, { I just read that Kuyt saying that it is time for him to score some goals} and I think just enough excuse to justfy his selecation by Benitez,  and he will drop Crouch once again, because he played yesterday for England, another Benitez babe will be restored that is Kewell for another stroll in park!!!!.

I really expect him to select another negaitive team hoping to stop Chelsea, rather than going at them. ???
