If we get 18 million for him mate it'd be fantastic business. My suspicion is the fee will be very low teens.

Wrong Mick Barca tried to get him for 14 million in this transfer window he will have a lot of takers.

Thank God Bigmick is not our manager, as some player's value go downhill in a matter of weeks under his eyes! we'd do bad business:

Alonso last season was equiparable to Mascherano according to him, yes he did say some details that he didn't like such as being easily pressed by the forward but all in all he considered them of the same league, and should Alonso would recover his best, always according to Bigmick, he would be ahead of Mascherano. All that considering that Alonso hadn't been at his best last season.

Alonso starts this season well, an so is admitted, then he goes through a nightmate of injuries, and 5 games later (recovery of form included) the price of Alonso has lowered as much as to a "low teens".

Well, I appreciate a lot Mascherano's game and what he provides but such an underrating of a quality player -- low teens -- is the kind of thing I'd expect of the bullshít thread.  What next? Alonso worse than Sissoko? :D

Well, football is a matter of tastes, and I understand and respect english tastes, but the teams that have the money should Alonso must leave (Barcelona-Madrid) have not that tastes. It's all well to say that Sissoko is not as bad as people think and all that, but a player like Alonso is light years beyond a player like Sissoko (8M) in the continent, and selling a player like Alonso for a couple of millions more than bought is a very bad piece of business.

If Alonso has to be sold, he has to be sold to get BIG money that would allow us to bring a BIG player somewhere else. Getting rid of a quality player cheaply is not a good idea.

:talktothehand Ok you got me, low teens may have been a bit harsh sorry. I do think though that we'd do well to get eighteen but low teens was over the top.

Playing in slower leagues like La Liga or Seria A would work much better for him.  He could do wonders in a team like Barca or Real Madrid.  I have no doubt that those two teams would spend 18 mill or higher on Alonso.

All in all, I read this forums in order basically to learn and consider other's opinions. And after having in the stomach several months the old proposal of selling Alonso (always assuming at the right price) I'm starting to think that it may be a possibility to consider, considering we don't have the financial muscle behind us that we expected from the Americans.

If that backing doesn't exist, we have to do good movements selling/buying the players. And considering we have an excellent midfielder in Mascherano, and that we need quality somewhere else, selling Alonso is one of the few possibilities that can give us the necessary money to attempt a move. Alonso, trust me on this, is the kind of player that can make a club like Madrid nuts and put on the table a silly offer like 30M + Robben and Baptista.  Know it sounds strange from where you sit, but the mentality is different, the values are different, the hype is different, the media is different.

That's the kind of operation I'd think it would be good for our club, which is the point.

:oh:

Sensible post Sabre.

That exactly what I realized too Sabre.  We're going to have do this kind of business at least until the new stadium is built.  This is what Arsenal did and it worked for them.

Its rumoured in todays papers Xabi is on his way in the summer for £15million Sabre. I would prefer a swop deal for Aguero myself.

He signed a new contract at the beginning of the season so about 4.5 years I think.

Dont apologise mick. Thats your opinion.

We can sell Xabi at low teen price and still make on him - Thats good business if you get more than you paid originally for him, even if the margin is narrow

Give the armband to this man he has been our best player this season.

Worth every nickle pound.

We really missed Hamann last season and it takes time for the confidence to grow of him not being there anymore Gerrard could do what he liked when Didi played he knew he had his back covered thats why Gerrard is so great today thanks to Didi.

And Lucas will be the same he will have Javier covering his @rse

that's a going abit too far , calling for the armband being given to him , let's not get ahead of ourselves
