Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Bammo » Sat Feb 02, 2008 11:45 pm

Things that annoy me at the moment...hmmm...I'll try to keep this down:

Liverpool:  Players not being arsed (Kewell) or thinking they're bigger than the club (Stevie G). I'd give anything to play for us yet they take it for granted.

Rafa rotating in-form players but sticking with out-of-form players.

Hicks. Do I need to say more?

Lack of youth players given a chance.

Media: Inability to mention Rafa without saying "rotation".

Detailed criticism of zonal marking yet nothing on man-to-man when other teams concede.

Newkit: People slagging players they don't like (eg Kuyt) yet the same people ignore any mistakes their fave players make.

People saying 1 thing in their posts then when they're pulled up on it they respondwith insults/patronising comments and claim they meant something completely different.

The way every thread descends into arguments and insults.

People insisting everyone takes extreme sides (eg Rafa in/out). Last month anyone daring to criticise Rafa was villified. Now, anyone supporting him is slated.

Right, that's enough to begin with :D

Things end up in "arguements" because people who call themselves fans won't accept another person's view point if it doesn't agree with there's bammo.

also slagging players off is part and parcle of the game. I try to see the best in all, but with some, your example Kuyt, other than hard work there is nothing else so he has to be expect criticism and fans have to expect that as well, that their more favoured players will be criticised. I've defended Gerrard for his actions in the West Ham game because I see him following instructions all season and we're 5th and 17 points behind the leaders. So I think it's about time players started using their own initiative and tried something new.

Rafa in/out is again just an opinion. Everybody has one, so why not express it.

The media have always been against Liverpool, nothing new.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

After all the doom and gloom of the past few weeks who else laughed at David Beckham trying to get his 100th cap to coincide with his new academy only to be snubbed by capello !

There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

Most of the rafa threads have 1 or 2 pages of expressing opinions then pages of "you like rafa so you're a cunt", "you hate rafa so you're a dickhead".

As for the kuyt example, he does deserve criticism but so do others sometimes (like when torres/crouch play poorly). Another example is today's game: Masch is (rightly) lauded for his performance but some people say Pennant was only good because Sunderland are so poor. Hmm, surely the same rules apply for both players?  ???

Once gerrard and Carragehr leave we have no home grown players which is a worry in the long run.

Mind due none of Arsenal or Chelseas players are home grown are they?

Cigg a lad of 22 who was playing local sunday football in the same team as my lad. Got spotted by Charlton last season they give him a trial he impressed and they signed him up on a three year contract, This season they loaned him out to gillingham and the lad started to do the buissiness there so now theve called him back and hes in the first team, We all thought big step up from playin sunday to playing first division espesialy at his age but hes making a name for himself down the Valley, And still a good lad away from football. Chris Dickson the lads is just shows you though how many are never picked up and slip through the net when there younger

Plenty of quality young players slip through the net. Scouts go to watch the better teams in the better leagues. I've played in good and extremely bad youth sides and there have been amazing players but they never get picked because the team loses 10-0 every game. I've also seen players get signed up who were average but made to look good by having good players around them.

Gone were the days where only 3 foreign players were allowed, but in today's 'result based' games, where the stakes are counted in millions of pounds; can a manager gamble with an unknown, 'lower league' upstarts, local hero? We'll the masses allow for it?

Micah richards, what are the odds of getting that kind of quality player in the youth system?

Masherano gets better and better. I think in the Summer we should look to offload Alonso to the highest bidder

LOL When Alonso first arrived didnt we have same sentiment about getting rid of Didi. Then there was a broken toe here , a red card there. Before you know it we had one of those African signings who name has been stricken from my memory by hypno therapy in the starting eleven.

Only seems like yesterday people were whinging our squad didnt have enough depth to win anything

If we get 18 million for him mate it'd be fantastic business. My suspicion is the fee will be very low teens.

Wrong Mick Barca tried to get him for 14 million in this transfer window he will have a lot of takers.

Thank God Bigmick is not our manager, as some player's value go downhill in a matter of weeks under his eyes! we'd do bad business:

Alonso last season was equiparable to Mascherano according to him, yes he did say some details that he didn't like such as being easily pressed by the forward but all in all he considered them of the same league, and should Alonso would recover his best, always according to Bigmick, he would be ahead of Mascherano. All that considering that Alonso hadn't been at his best last season.

Alonso starts this season well, an so is admitted, then he goes through a nightmate of injuries, and 5 games later (recovery of form included) the price of Alonso has lowered as much as to a "low teens".

Well, I appreciate a lot Mascherano's game and what he provides but such an underrating of a quality player -- low teens -- is the kind of thing I'd expect of the bullshít thread.  What next? Alonso worse than Sissoko? :D

Well, football is a matter of tastes, and I understand and respect english tastes, but the teams that have the money should Alonso must leave (Barcelona-Madrid) have not that tastes. It's all well to say that Sissoko is not as bad as people think and all that, but a player like Alonso is light years beyond a player like Sissoko (8M) in the continent, and selling a player like Alonso for a couple of millions more than bought is a very bad piece of business.

If Alonso has to be sold, he has to be sold to get BIG money that would allow us to bring a BIG player somewhere else. Getting rid of a quality player cheaply is not a good idea.

:talktothehand Ok you got me, low teens may have been a bit harsh sorry. I do think though that we'd do well to get eighteen but low teens was over the top.

Right, thank you.

All in all, I read this forums in order basically to learn and consider other's opinions. And after having in the stomach several months the old proposal of selling Alonso (always assuming at the right price) I'm starting to think that it may be a possibility to consider, considering we don't have the financial muscle behind us that we expected from the Americans.

If that backing doesn't exist, we have to do good movements selling/buying the players. And considering we have an excellent midfielder in Mascherano, and that we need quality somewhere else, selling Alonso is one of the few possibilities that can give us the necessary money to attempt a move. Alonso, trust me on this, is the kind of player that can make a club like Madrid nuts and put on the table a silly offer like 30M + Robben and Baptista.  Know it sounds strange from where you sit, but the mentality is different, the values are different, the hype is different, the media is different.

That's the kind of operation I'd think it would be good for our club, which is the point.
