Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby REDTILLDEAD » Sat Feb 02, 2008 9:28 pm

I am all in favour of the protest after todays game, as i was there and the fans in the kop were very vocal....and "anti-yank" in their chants,,,and as for that fukking Judas mc manaman...to hell with him!...the splintered @rsed tw@t...thats all he was ever good for sitting on wooden benches....he did enough of it at Real Madrid. I thought our preformance today was bloody awful, but we got the 3pts i just hope we play a lot better next week at Chelsea cos' we wont get away with a display like today...it just wont be good enough? it could be a case of "papering over the cracks". ???

Fans need to stand united – or fall divided

Feb 2 2008

by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

FORGET Mark Noble's last minute winner for West Ham on Wednesday night, the most depressing sight for everyone connected with Liverpool over the last week was fans on the Kop turning on themselves.

If ever there was a symbol of the fractures which are running right through the club it was there for all to see during the FA Cup clash against Havant & Waterlooville.

This was the dirtiest of linen being washed in public, supporters who normally stand shoulder to shoulder as one to become the much fabled twelfth man publicly bickering and arguing.

The reason for the split was that one section of the Kop had started chanting against the club's owners at a time when other sections of the stand wanted to get behind the team.

It was one of those situations where there are no absolute rights and wrongs, only grey areas and opinions and the disagreement quickly became all too apparent.

As if Liverpool didn't already have enough problems, here were the fans, the very people who have inspired the club to such great heights on so many occasions, falling out with one another.

The acrimony was so palpable you could almost taste it.

Thankfully, on Thursday night a move was made which could help restore unity when a Liverpool supporters’ union was established at The Sandon pub, the very place where Reds players used to get changed for matches in the 1890s.

In a great bit of marketing, the union has been named Sons Of Shankly or SOS if you prefer the initials, and the idea behind it is to re-establish the unity among fans which was all too conspicuous by its absence during the Havant game.

Lifelong Red Nicky Allt is one of the prime movers behind SOS and he told Blood Red the time has come for all Liverpool fans to come together for the good of the club.

He said: "What happened last week can't be allowed to happen again, it's as simple as that.

"We all have disagreements and it's human nature to think we know what's best but when there is a group of people as big as the Liverpool fan base we have to make sure we don't get carried away with our own individual ideas and instead try to come up with a consensus of opinion.

"That's what the union – and I use that word with pride – is all about. It's about providing a broad church for Liverpool fans from all backgrounds to come together and speak with one voice.

"If we are divided then we can't have any positive influence on the team, the club or anything else so unity is the only way forward."

Not surprisingly given its name, the union is looking at adopting a famous Shankly quote as its slogan and one of the most popular suggestions so far is the classic: "The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life."

If every Liverpool supporter lives up to that slogan then depressing incidents like the one on the Kop last week will quickly be forgotten and that would be best for everyone.

A small "protest" with "YANKS OUT" is not good.

"YANKS OUT"

sounds alright to me...

the only people who won't like it are..... perhaps.... YANKS?

the idea behind sons of shankly is great, i just hope that whoever's in charge has the skill to manage it properly otherwise it'll just become a pointless talking shop.

oh yeah and masch for president  :buttrock

I don't like it.

"YANKS OUT" doesn't sound good.

It makes the fans look bad.

Unfortunately it is a situation that has deeply splintered LFC and so people are venting their frustration and their passion.Successful protests do not begin with Millions pouring onto the streets they begin with one individual making a stand. I understand there has been a lot of talk of talk about the "anti-american" sentiment brought about by the protest, but things always need to be in contextand in this case they mean G&H out.

We as a club don't like yanks though, remember a goalkeeper named Brad Friedle, we sell him he goes onto be one of the best keepers in the land, we only let him go for being American :D

get rid of the yanks, they're making the club look bad so i couldn't give a toss how we make them look.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Yea man. I really believe he is a good guy.. But yea...Sh.it happends.

Is this how all future match threads are going to end up? Rather than talk about the match itself talk about the yanks, I mean come on ! isnt there enough threads for them?

Anyway, does anybody know why Lucas gave any sort of impression to rafa that he would be a great left midfielder? Or is it that he has totally lost faith in those who normally play there?

I think Gerrard was suppose to play on the left, but he told Lucas to play there instead.   :D
