Winter of discontent

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby hello_red » Sat Feb 02, 2008 4:10 am

Another pointless thread to add to the long list of hard hitters that have created ludicrus threads.

I am a :censored: off liverpool fan, lets vote in Thatcher!

Its a great time for metaphor.

Rafa, I love the guy for what he has done. But he has never had the proper backing.

He will get it at Milan......

explain never had the backing from who? the board, fans or players?

the board have given him 150 million
the fans have marched for him, as well as some sections holding him up as highly as Dalglish and Fagan
the players have given their all for him time and time again

where hasn't he had the proper backing?
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

I understand where your coming from, but he has never been able to get his first choice targets Torres apart.

Which suggests to me either someone in the board wasnt pulling there weight, there was not enough money or they didnt want to join the club.
Its one of three.

Im not going to list the potential targets Rafa has asked for or wanted in the past because we all know who they are.

Thats what I mean by not getting the proper backing.

Thanks for a reasonable response.

there's also the fact that clubs may not of wanted to sell, i.e. henize from united or even that fella from porto, qurasema or however it's spelt.

Thats my point, the game is ran by money and spin and if you have both you are in a good position to sign whoever you want.

Im not saying would get players like kaka or fracking Zlatan but you must get my meaning.

Money and the ability to utilise it are a must in any succesful club and we have had neither!

We've had money, more than enough to secure the signature of any player we want. Problem is, it's been wasted on many poor to average players, than 1 world superstar. Last year for example, 6 on Pennant, 6 on Bellamy and 10 for Kuyt, there's 22 million, we could of sold Garcia last year for the 4 we got this and made it 26 million and got Torres last year. This year, 22 million of Mascheranho and Benayoun, when I feel we didn't need either to be honest, that 22 could of gone on another top striker or even two somethin which we are obviously crying out for.

So it annoys me when people say we haven't had money because we have, we just don't go out and fork 25 million on one player, instead we buy 3 or 4 with the same amount, but it's still 25 million spent.

Pointless!

I had the exact same discussion with an Everton fan today, he said the exact same thing as you.

I am critical of our current state and believe Rafa will be gone in the summer to Milan or some other European heavy weight.

Its the winter of discontent. A sad moment for Liverpool FC when so many supporters are so divided on a subject that should really be uniting the city. I know people on here are from all around the world and that is a good thing and opinion is a great thing. But some things are best left to the winds of change and this  a situation that needs to be left by the fans. Get at the manager, you get at the team as a result.

It saddens and pisses me off that this has happened as we stqarted this season playing some very good football and it went downhill quickly. Why? I dont know but I do know that the other night fights broke out amongst Liverpool fans due to the protests over the american owners. We are a club for the f**king people, we dont fight our own on the terraces but it happened at the Havant game.

Its sad and worrying about the situation we are in.

Everything needs to run smoothly for a club to be succesful and at the moment it is not.

The team
The manager
The backroom staff
The bootroom staff
The boardroom
The owners
And especially the FANS are not getting along.

Impossible circumstances for a football club to be in.

Discontent!

I'm with you Red on this one. I just don't know what to think anymore. If anything, I'm as equally, if not more, disgusted at how some of our so called fans are acting these days. Best fans in the world? Think again.

We're in limbo right now. Now, cast your minds back to where it all began. What's that I hear? Ahhh, that's right - it's the f*cking tune  of the Star Spangled Banner!

Sadly many of our fans have just become too spoiled.  For them 2 European Cup Finals and the FA cup is not good enough.  Many have forgotten that it was Rafa who made Liverpool a big club again. They just don't know what they have till it's gone.  You just have to look at Valencia and see that we are making the exact mistake that they made.

no, 2 european cup finals and an fa cup isnt enough. the league is what teh 'real' fans want, and its slipped away again. Rafa made the club big again? we were always big. he might have made it so that more non real supporters joined up, but weve always been big.

Well if you want the league so much then go support Man U.  And Liverpool was always big, but Rafa made it a European giant again, before that no one took the club seriously.

1st post, and Dawson I agree with you all the way mate. Liverpool have and always will be a big a club.

Again I agree with Dawson, 2 European Cup finals and a FA Cup isn't good enough. It MAY of been good enough if we wasn't finishing the season over 20 points every season (bar the season we finished 9 points behind) but this year looks to be like the other two, 20-40 points differnce between us and the champions.

welcome aboard me_and_fowler_L8, nice to see agreement.

and ruskyi... no offence, but its all about the premiership...dunno, mabye you are from russia where the league dont mean as much, but to us it does mean everything. id give away every cup weve won in the last 10 years for the premiership title and dominance in england to be completely honest.

So winning the UEFA Cup in 01 beating sides like Roma and Barcelona along the way, also going onto win the Super Cup against Bayern Munich  didn't make us a European giant did it? But obviously you won't remember those days as you're probably one of these fans who have only started to support us since the success of 05.

Cheers Dawson as well for the welcome.
