Possitives from last night

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

What did you think to last nights display? I thought we passed the ball well but used the long ball a bit too much, their was some good over lapping at times (Kewell to Cisse combination was good), one possitive was that Finnans corners we a lot better than Murphys.

All in all I like the new look, obviously it will develop with time and new players but the future looks bright, the future looks Red

I thought we looked good. We need a few more games to get that match sharpness but on the whole, we weren't troubled.

Good workmen like performence.

Josemi looked good, Cisse didn't get the chance to show his pace but Spurs will see it. Finnan looked comfortable on the right ( I was impressed ).  Carra looked sharp in the center.
Riise went quiet every now and again but then again, Graz didn't really test him.

Bring on spurs.

I thought we looked a little more stable at the back, although there were a couple of moments which made me worry.....am concerned against a more clinical side, we would have been punished...and perhaps more weaknesses exposed. That said, it was a clean sheet and a confidence builder.

I liked the fact that we weren't defending quite so deeply and the passing seemed to be a lot quicker than the last few seasons. There were a few moments that Dudek released the ball and after 3 touches we had a shooting opportunity...much more like it in my book (I have admired the way arsenal do that for years.) The support and movement for those type of moves looked a lot better as well.

I didn't think Kewell or finnan were particularly effective on either side of the park and was disappointed with Kewell in particular.

I liked the fact that Stevie appears to have had some of the pressure taken off of him and other people are being used to take the free kicks and the corners. I didn't have the feeling that he felt that he had to do everything last night. Actually I thought that he had quite an average game (passing wise especially), but he still got the 2 goals. Usually you'd see him run the game, but not score anything. I'll settle for 2 goals every time :)

Baros and Cisse up front were patchy at best, but both showed signs that they could do some real damage. At least the front line looked dynamic and dangerous. We were giving their defence all sorts of trouble (as noted by the continual kicking Cisse out of the game), which is a big big improvement over the 1 dimensional Owen/Heskey partnership. With practice and a little more understanding between them, the front line will be excellent.

I still see a place for Owen in that front line too.

Was nice to see Rafa as animated as he was and also nice to see a few young faces coming through for the experience.

At the end of the day, it was our first match of the season and we got a convincing 2-0 win out of it. This time yesterday we would have all settled for that. Providing the team continues in this direction, we'll have a good season.

A lot of possitives that i could see :) Finnan looked promising on the right and the defence looked solid carra  in particular, although they were never really tested. Josemi looked like he's made for the premiership, solid composed and bright pushin forward. Didi as ever didn't put a foot wrong . We passed the ball really well and should be pleased with the way we bossed the game.

Spot on.
Pleased with the result but based on the lack of quality shown by the opposition I wouldn't get to carried away. There's still a lot of work to be done.

Was pleased with the all-round team performance. I thought that Kewell had a good game and got stuck in well, his flick for Gerrards 2nd goal was class.

Finnan on the right of midfield was solid, but i think just a stop gap while Rafa delves in the market.

Cisse looked sharp but looks like AK knew about him and gave him little space.

Gerrard was sublime last night, he should have had a hat-trick but for a dodgy linesman.

As for Owen on the bench, i think his face said it all ;)

I THOUGHT WE LOOKED GOOD WE LOOKED A LOT MORE ORGANISED AT THE BACK DEFENDING HIGHER UP THE PITCH WHICH I LIKE YO SEE AND THE MOVEMENT FROM CISSE AND BAROS LOOKED POSITIVE TO ME, A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR ME COME ON THE REDS

sorry. I didn't check before sending it. I meant:
Does anybody have an idea why Josemi was positioned in the right flank? But it has been sorted out already; Woof made it clear to me that he wasn't playing as a mid, but it was Finnan. I was just confused by a site reporting Josemi played on mid.

Lfc were good at times we could have been more clinical but that comes with more games, But the worrying sign for me was the team sometimes looked like clicking back into GH mode by thumping the long ball.

It's not easy for Rafa to get the boy's who spent 6yrs playing hoof to come around to his way of thinking Good Luck Rafa you will need it . :;):

morning fellow reds! decent performance last night from the boys. i have just watched the game again on video and there were some encouraging signs.

1. the defence. ok we weren't playing against the greatest opposition but the defence generally looks solid. the big test will come on saturday. looks like benitez is favouring playing carragher at centre half this season instead of henchoz. our defence played higher up the pitch which was also a positive sign.

2. steven gerrard. scored two. should have had a hatrick. played one sublime through-ball to baros in the first half. absolute inspiration. if there is a better all round midfielder in europe then i want to see him.

3. warnock and potter getting some first team action. hopefully a sign of things to come.

the only negatives were obviously owen not getting on (were we really that surprised?) and kewell's performance. i dunno what it is with him but there's something not right at the moment. :(

but forget all that. bring on the champions league draw! :D

I wasnt that impressed with last nights performance. we were average at times. I thought we passed it well though and kept the ball for most of the game, restricting them to 0 chances.

You can argue it was the first game of the season, but aren't you supposed to be at your freshest then? I mean Kewell has been Surfing all summer. Its not as if he's never kicked a ball before, and they've been in solid training for 3 weeks.

But seeing as it was the first time i have seen Cisse for 90 mins, where the hell was he?
He kept falling over like heskey used to.

I wanna see more than that in coming games, i was expecting thierry henry mark 2!

BAros probably got a shock, as hes not used to starting for LFC,

Risse was quiet, Kewell Quiet, Hamann...a typical performance.

I said to myself after 60 mins "if this was Arsenal they'd be 5/6 up by now!" (as i talk to myself a lot!)

I think we are just in the rebuilding phase though, so not that much to worry about.
