I don't wanna see mascherano dropped for alonso or lucas...

Players should be picked on form not price.

After all, Gerrard cost us nothing so should he be dropped because we spent £12m on Alonso and £6m on Lucas?  ???

Jesus........

What i am saying is that we paid huge money for him. We shouldn't rotate him for the sake of rotating...if he is playing well...then don't drop......if he is doing a "kewell" then drop him....

What i don't want to see is if Mash has a great game...and he gets dropped the next game due to the dreaded rotation...That would pi$$ me...

sorry to say this but yes i agree with you , he's no longer the player he was in his first 2 season , this season he has looked average by far and last season he was also average . IF the only way we could get the money for masch was to sell alonso , i would do it , masch is younger , quicker and better at tackling them alonso , alonso is a better passer of the ball and even now his accuracy and vision and creativity has been decreasing .

I do agree Alonso's been a little off form this season, but saying that if he didn't get injured when we played Arsenal we would have won that game. On that day he was certainly our rock, and he was the reason he were leading and when he went off we looked a different side...

Wait it's killing me has he signed or not???

With about three minutes of the January transfer window remaining, it has been confirmed on Sky Sports News that Argentina International Javier Mascherano, has secured a permanent move to Liverpool Football Club in a deal worth a reported £17million.

After weeks of “will he wont he” talk, the midfielder finally signed on the dotted line to grab a four-and-a-half year deal at Anfield.

Rafa Benitez is confident Liverpool will complete a deal to secure the future of Javier Mascherano.

The midfielder is currently on loan with the Reds until the end of the season and Benitez is keen to fix the Argentine international on a permanent deal.

Reports suggested the Reds had agreed the £18million signing of Mascherano on Thursday's transfer deadline, but a deal was not agreed with Media Sports Investment - who own the rights to Mascherano.

Benitez, though, insists a deal will soon be finalised for Mascherano, who is set to return to the Liverpool squad for Saturday's clash with Sunderland after sitting out the midweek defeat to West Ham through suspension.

Confident

"It is clear the player has a contract with us until the end of the season," Benitez told Sky Sports News.

"We are trying to progress with the situation so that he can play with us. It is not a problem, we are trying to seal the deal.

"We say it before and we say it now, we are confident he will stay with us.

"He proves he is a very good professional from the first day. His commitment is fantastic and the supporters know this. We are talking about a very good player."

Important

Meanwhile, Benitez is content with the business Liverpool conducted in the January transfer window.

Liverpool captured defender Martin Skrtel from Zenit St Petersberg and allowed Mohamed Sissoko to join Juventus and Benitez is happy with the limited transfer activity.

"We couldn't do too much because in January it is always difficult to find the right players," Benitez added. "We had the target of Martin Skrtel and also Mohamed Sissoko."

And Benitez also believes the January transfer activity demonstrates he has the support of club owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, despite it being suggest the trio endure a less than cordial relationship.

"They have shown that they want to improve the squad and this is important," Benitez concluded.

An agreement can be made which would guarantee the transfer to go through at the end of the season.

JAVIER HOPING THE END IS NIGH
Jimmy Rice 04 February 2008
Javier Mascherano is hopeful a deal to keep him at Anfield will be completed this week.
The Argentine international also claims the bond he has developed with the Kop is a major factor in his desire to stay on Merseyside.

"It's not finished yet but I am hoping to stay here," Mascherano told Liverpoolfc.tv. "I have a lot of confidence that after the next week I will be able to say, 'Everything is right and I am staying here in Liverpool.'

"We now need to wait. We are very close but we need to talk again next week. I think everything will be okay. I've waited a long time, so I can wait one week more.

"The fans like me and I love the fans. They are great and that's the reason I want to stay here."

The midfielder was speaking after the 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday, Liverpool's first league win of 2008.

While the result eventually proved emphatic, the goalless first-half in which few chances were created was indicative of the Reds' post-Christmas form.

So, were there more harsh words from the gaffer at half-time, as reportedly happened during the FA Cup win over Havant nine days ago?
"No. We knew we would have chances in the second half, so we weren't feeling so bad at half time," said Mascherano. "We knew we could do something to win the game. It was just important we kept calm.

"At half time we were told to keep going and work hard. We weren't playing really, really well, but it wasn't so bad either. We had to keep working together.

"The difference was that we scored early in the second half and you could see that gave us a lot of confidence. Once you've scored, you become calmer."

Mascherano admits he and his teammates owed that second-half performance to the fans following five league games without a win.

He also believes it will have a big impact on the squad's state of mind going into next Sunday's trip to Stamford Bridge.

"We owed the fans a result," he said. "We've played badly recently but now we can have confidence again. We can go into the international break happy and then we have a big game against Chelsea.

"It's a difficult place to go, so the win over Sunderland was important because it means we can go to London with a lot of confidence. We can play with confidence again.

"We are close to fourth spot again – just one point behind. But now we have to keep this level."

Fingers crossed, it sounds promising
