I would describe you as an activist -in the rafa out brigade

"activists"
from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, political campaigning, economic activism (such as boycotts or preferentially patronizing preferred businesses), rallies and street marches, strikes, or even guerrilla tactics. In the more confrontational cases, an activist may be called a freedom fighter by some, and a terrorist by others, depending on whether the commentator supports the activist's ends.

I have done none of the above.

LIVERPOOL SUPPORTERS UNION

"The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life" (Bill Shankly)

Where we are now :   Well we've set up a working  party  that will meet  shortly to  discuss the issuing of a statement to the supporters on behalf of the group, tentatively titled 'The Sons Of Shankly ',. We have also agreed a strategy to conduct elections and the creation of formal committee to take the group forward .  A meeting will be called within the next few weeks to allow all interested parties to attend and contribute to the creation of the new group.

In the interim , Nicky Allt has agreed to stand as chairman, Neil Atkinson as spokesperson, with Giulio Canneti, Andy Heaton and Alan Kayll filling all other administrative roles in the interim.

We intend to contact eveyone who expressed an interest in getting involved last night . Please bear with us, as the response last night far exceeded our wildest expectations, it could hardly have been more of a success, but we will get back to you  as soon as we can .

The outcome of the meeting last night was that the fans stand united  behind  two aims :

* Firstly, the short term aim of getting Hicks and Gillett out of our club.  Its not just about the debt; there's their lies, deceits and lack of respect for us. We hit them in pocket and we do so noisily but peacefully.  We will start with a boycott of the club Shops - persuade people not to buy from   official outlets; making LFC a less attractive financial proposition for G&H. We are also calling for a 15 minute post-game protest  immediately after the final whistle after the Sunderland game. Stay in your seats and make your views known loudly.

*  Secondly, the aim is to set  the 'Sons Of Shankly ' group up as a subscription based trade-union style movement , similar to continental socio groups, based upon one-member one-vote principles  which can stridently represent  our interests, i.e. the interests of every Liverpool supporter.

We acknowledge we need mainstream support and that many supporters do not go on  internet  forums or websites. The  support of these supporters are crucial to our goals.  If we stand united and speak with one voice both of these goals are possible. It was acknowledged that any alternative to the current ownership will not be benign and that we'll need to stand together and voice our common goals not just for six weeks but for sixty years, not just with 400 but with 4 million. We can use the brand and its popularity against anyone who tries to exploit us.

"We see this the ''start'' not the end, after the re-package deal finally went through.

People will criticise, bemoan and be cynical to what we are trying to achieve, but we feel that Liverpool people are leaders, and only followers when a cause is right.

The clubs owners, at this moment in time, are simply not right.

They have made ''false'' promises, so now, as the ''true'' spirit of the club we aim to make ourselves heard."

Nicky Allt

Great stuff! Let's stay on red alert over these issues. Complacency will kill us! Why stop at protesting just after the game? There should be banners and chants during the game - we cannot be half-hearted. Yes support the team and protest against Hicks during the game. The result of the game is honestly not important - the whole issue is much larger than any game or whether we finish top 4 or even whether Rafa goes. These are watershed days at our club. The football doesn't matter right now. You have to be a real fan to understand this. We have to be active - complacency is not what real Liverpool fans are made of - we wear our heart on our sleeve and make ourselves known! F.uck Hicks and F.uck the complacent hordes. :)

Fans need to stand united – or fall divided

Feb 2 2008

by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

FORGET Mark Noble's last minute winner for West Ham on Wednesday night, the most depressing sight for everyone connected with Liverpool over the last week was fans on the Kop turning on themselves.

If ever there was a symbol of the fractures which are running right through the club it was there for all to see during the FA Cup clash against Havant & Waterlooville.

This was the dirtiest of linen being washed in public, supporters who normally stand shoulder to shoulder as one to become the much fabled twelfth man publicly bickering and arguing.

The reason for the split was that one section of the Kop had started chanting against the club's owners at a time when other sections of the stand wanted to get behind the team.

It was one of those situations where there are no absolute rights and wrongs, only grey areas and opinions and the disagreement quickly became all too apparent.

As if Liverpool didn't already have enough problems, here were the fans, the very people who have inspired the club to such great heights on so many occasions, falling out with one another.

The acrimony was so palpable you could almost taste it.

Thankfully, on Thursday night a move was made which could help restore unity when a Liverpool supporters’ union was established at The Sandon pub, the very place where Reds players used to get changed for matches in the 1890s.

In a great bit of marketing, the union has been named Sons Of Shankly or SOS if you prefer the initials, and the idea behind it is to re-establish the unity among fans which was all too conspicuous by its absence during the Havant game.

Lifelong Red Nicky Allt is one of the prime movers behind SOS and he told Blood Red the time has come for all Liverpool fans to come together for the good of the club.

He said: "What happened last week can't be allowed to happen again, it's as simple as that.

"We all have disagreements and it's human nature to think we know what's best but when there is a group of people as big as the Liverpool fan base we have to make sure we don't get carried away with our own individual ideas and instead try to come up with a consensus of opinion.

"That's what the union – and I use that word with pride – is all about. It's about providing a broad church for Liverpool fans from all backgrounds to come together and speak with one voice.

"If we are divided then we can't have any positive influence on the team, the club or anything else so unity is the only way forward."

Not surprisingly given its name, the union is looking at adopting a famous Shankly quote as its slogan and one of the most popular suggestions so far is the classic: "The socialism I believe in is everyone working for each other, everyone having a share of the rewards. It's the way I see football, the way I see life."

If every Liverpool supporter lives up to that slogan then depressing incidents like the one on the Kop last week will quickly be forgotten and that would be best for everyone.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.
