Mascherano NOT Finally Signed Up - Despite reports to the contrary...

I don't think only attackers should have money forked out on them,  but for a fella who isn't a great passer, doesn't score and isn't all that quick 18 million is a lot whether it's in 1 sum or not

also, if we were stability from next year, we can't have Gerrard in the middle with Mascheranho if we want Alonso or my prefered option of Lucas. So we either stuff Gerrard back onto the right wing or have 18 million sat on the bench
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Liverpool verbally agree deal for Javier MascheranoFeb 1 2008
by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post

JAVIER MASCHERANO’S permanent transfer moved a step nearer yesterday when Liverpool verbally agreed a deal to sign the Argentina international.

Club officials met with representatives of the player to thrash out the terms over a package for the 23-year-old midfielder.

The player’s agent Kia Joorabchian, whose Media Sports Investment company own the rights for Mascherano, was on Merseyside to negotiate an £18.6m transfer.

That valuation includes the £1.6m Liverpool have already paid to take Mascherano on an initial 18-month loan, which is due to expire at the end of the season.

The deal, which will see Mascherano commit his future to Anfield until 2012, did not have to be completed before last night’s transfer window closed and is expected to be signed next week.

The overall fee matches the £18.6m Manchester United splashed out to sign another defensive midfielder, Michael Carrick, from West Ham United in 2006.

Looks like the deal DOESN'T include his wages :(  but does include the loan fee.

The first bit of good news we have had in a while. So in this transfer window we bought a good (hopefully) defender and swaped an excellent defensive midfielder for a good defensive midfielder.

I know mate, its just I do love a bargain.

I am already working on my new tactics which will involve us playing in a diamond formation.

                         Mascherano

            Gerrard                     Alonso

                          Lucas

Torres    Crouch(hopefully in the summer we get Aguero or Diego )

Our wingers aren't up to it so I have decided to eliminate them.

yeah, thats what i've been saying from the start. The fee has always been £17m, plus the £1.6m loan = £18.6m.

Thats £18.6 million we give to MSI. Then we pay his wages.

I dont know where the whole wages included thing came into it, no transfers are ever stated to include wages.

£8m was far too cheap for a player like mash, especially when you consider carrick/hargreaves etc - (and thats assuming he's on £50k a week - rise this to 60k a week in the transfer fee and that fee would be £4.5million! - so it was never really gonna be wages inclusive

There was an article that quoted Rafa as saying that they had negotiated a deal that included his wages into the £17million signing on fee. I have searched for it but can't find it (but unless I have alzehimers, there was an article) Obviously it now appears it was wrong.

I wouldn't put money on it (I am getting on a bit  :D  )

Glad to see hes finally (just about) tied up now. Besides Torres he's been are best player this season. Now then, just a left back, 2 wingers and a striker and we're home!

We signed him for more than 18 million......this means we should be see him start most or all of our matches if he is not injured or suspended.

I don't wanna see mascherano dropped for alonso or lucas...

Players should be picked on form not price.

After all, Gerrard cost us nothing so should he be dropped because we spent £12m on Alonso and £6m on Lucas?  ???
