From the sound of it, he's still at school, texting behind the bike sheds while having a crafty fag.

Back to the POST ???

Michael Owen has the right to play for whoever he chooses and who he considers is the best club for him in terms of his career which is relativly short (and extrememly lucrative mind you ).

However LFC also have the right to protect the interest of the club and thats why I believe leaving Owen on the bench for tonight was a shrewd decision. Had we been 2-0 down after an hour then we may well have thrown him on to preserve our CL status as qualifying for the group stages of the CL is probably worth twice what LFC would receive in transfer fees for Owen.

It's interesting to note that Ronaldo at Real Madrid hasn't signed an extension to his contract with a  year left to run. Now you can look at Real's apparrent interest in 3 ways ....

1. Its a warning shot to Ronaldo that Real are lining up a replacement for him should he continue to stall on his contract negotiations OR ......

2 . They are resigned to losing Ronaldo and are truly interested in Michael OR..........

3. They want Owen for the merchandising alone and would play him sparingly to keep the interest and subsequent money rolling in ...........

Whatever the case LFC have acted for the best interests of the CLUB not Michael Owen...

exactly, if Owen sees the chance to further his career at Barca or Real it would be better for him to go now, so we get a transfer fee and doesn't go on a Bosman, ala McManaman.

sitting on the bench last night, will add further fuel to the fire of the speculation which is rife at the moment. I believe Owen will re-sign now that we are almost guaranteed to havng a CL spot, if he decides to leave then so be it, hopefully we get a good fee and I will wish the lad well wherever he ends up. (unless it's ManU  :D )

...or Real's name has been brought into this thanks to some bizarre flight of fancy by an Echo reporter.

It's clearly all absolute balls cooked up thanks to a mischievous agent wanting to stir up a hornets nest in the press, thereby putting pressure on LFC to up whatever numbers are on the table at the moment.

If Michael had got on tonight for even the last 10 mins i'd be inclined to agree with you mate but he didn't, when the last 15 mins would have been beneficial to Michael in terms of match fitness with the new season starting this Saturday .

I'll tell you what though ...I'll put my house on him starting this Saturday  ??? Why ? Cos it's the PREM and he can play Spanish/Italian football all season once and if he signs .....

bottom line is that Liverpool FC have acted in the best interests of the CLUb not the Player and I applaud that .

I'm not going to start to slate MO cos He's been and I hope he wil remain the Fabulous LFC player he is but should MO wish to move he shouldn't be allowed to do it on HIS terms ....

Problem with Owen is he thinks that he holds all the Aces, Rafa did the right thing and is trying to instill discipline and team spirit. Owen no longer wants to be part of Liverpool because he is past caring about LFC and clearly believes his own hype. Aka Fowler, he has had his best years so lets move on and flog him. Nobody wanted Keegan sold many years ago but we got King Kenny! So lets not mourn his loss too much.

A little harsh on Owen Charwell but I understand your sentiment.

Michael is entitled to hold out for the best deal he can and LFC are fully within their rights to sell him if they deem he isn't prepared to sign.

What LFC did tonight was a masterstroke and in RB has shown already he isn't such a pushover when it vcomes to Michale than Gerard Houlier was....

Benitez has come from Valencia who essentialy were a selling club due to financial necessicity , he's probably seen players come and go like this before at valencia so won't be too concerned or so easily pushed around ....

Owen is being very sly on the issue, no one knows whats going on except him me thinks, his aim is to play Cl football and win things, fair enough, all footballers want this in their career. It is esentially up to Owen what he wants to do, but it would be nice for some explanation and honesty from him as Charwell said.

I believe he will re-sign now we are almost assured of CL football, and he will do an interview afterwards and explain what he was going through, similar to the Stevie G sitation, although we still don't know exactly waht went on there.

personally, im not sure if owens off. leaving him on the bench just shows more of rafas shrewdness. its obvious owen is considering leaving so if rafa played him, other clubs would wait another season to buy him and wed get nothing. so, in not playing him, rafa is just making sure that if owen wants to go, we get something for him. he obviously had this in mind:
i mean, baros wasn't havin a good game and rafa looks to the bench, there is no need to bring on a defender as we are all over graz(or grass as frank stapleton was calling them), he sees owen, diao, biscan, potter, warnock and kirkland and who does he bring on...DIAO. If ever there was a time in which it was blatantly obvious that there was doubt over owens future at the club then that was it.

He'll pass the ball 40 yards,
He's quick and he's f*cking hard,
