Torres ideal partner? - 10-12mill tops

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Scottbot » Sun Jan 20, 2008 1:34 am

There's been quite a bit of talk on here recently about who should partner our fantastic striker just recently. Most agree that Kuyt and Voronin are not the answer, a good few fancy Crouch while more and more seem to think a Babel-Torres partnership is the dream ticket. I think it's most likely that neither of them is exactly right man to play alongside him and the first job next summer for Rafa (or whoever else) to sort out will be a new striking partner for El Nino.

So here's the deal, you've got £10-12 mill tops to spend (so no Kaka's or Ronaldinho's from the Champ Managers). Who would you go for and why?

I guess there are a few options out there depending on your knowledge of football abroad but for me personally, i would look closer to home and my first choice would be Robbie Keane. I know he's been discussed a bit before on here but he'd be the perfect foil for my mind. He's quick, direct, can play on the shoulder but CRUCIALLY is just as adept at coming deep, facing up and making things happen from there, he scores his share of 1on1's (i witnessed it 1st hand at Anfield this season - Clinical) add to this he is hard-working, creative (makes as many as he scores) and has a terrific attitude. He seems to tick all the Benitez boxes and he would be affordable, I figure £10-12mill would be about the fee we'd have to pay.

Anyone got any better ideas?

I would have went with Anelka, but he is gone.

Robbie Keane is a good choice, another would be Dean Ashton, I think he is a great player. He is big, strong in the air, creates chances for himself and his teammates, has a great finish and has great work rate. Also, he is a very intelligent player on the pitch.

12m would do it.

I'd favour a creative strike partner.

Keane is a good shout but for me, someone with the abilities of Saviola would have been ideal.

The one that got away, always will be. He should be a Liverpool player. Still not sure he would be the ideal partner for Torres, they would have had to work very hard on a partnership as no doubt they would be looking to attck the same areas and would have similar movements off the ball. He will do VERY well for Chelsea once he gets in sink with the rest of them.

Id stick with Gerrard as a supporting attacking midfielder in a 4-5-1, that way you have our two top scorers working closer together, room for mascher and alonso and wingers. Other than that id agree with Robbie Keane, he creates a lot of chances as well as taking the ones that come his way.

But nour wingers aren't really up to it are they? It's not like we've got Duff, Robben and Cole at their peaks as Chelsea did a few seasons back. We've got Babel, Pennant, Bennayoun and Kewell :(

That is true but then how many teams do have top class wingers? Aside from ronaldo not many stick out by a mile do they? Up until his injury I thought Pennant was improving. But your right of course, nobody stands out by a mile.

Diego would work well with Torres I would think, although after his recent success in Germany may be a little too expensive now. I don't rate Robbie Keane (sorry), Anelka would have been great , but my first choice would be Aguero (I know he would be too dear)

So I will stick with Diego, hopefully for about £10million.

Agbonlahor, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Kenwyne Jones and Robbie Keane. These players could possibly fall into the price bracket being talked about, it would be reasonable to approach them and they would add something to our first 11.

i think a lot of people would say thats a good shout, save the money because we might already have someone.

i would prefer someone with prem experience so i would of loved Anelka but settle for keane.
