Oh just blame Heysel.
Their record is patchy at best, I do of course have a record of every club who has won a major trophy so can provide the stats
everton - the bitter ****s' club
League titles since 1963 (4) - 62/63, 69/70, 84/85, 86/87
Four of their fourteen trophies came in the 80s, one FA Cup win over Watford lead them to the Cup Winners Cup win over Rapid Vienna. I've picked 1963 as it gives equal time of 22 years before the Heysel Tragedy and 22 years after. They've managed ONE trophy since the Heysel ban ended so the only way they can conclude they'd have dominated is through scapegoating, denial and wild imagination. How can our tragedy in EUROPE be blamed on their lack of domestic success? They won the league just once during the ban and not since, their 'domination' in England in the 80s extended to three domestic trophies. The truth is we dominated the league in the 80s, they picked up the scraps. In the 90s the mancs dominated and Arsenal picked up the scraps. Only great sides win the European Cup (truly great sides more than once), that is why everton and Arsenal haven't won it - at least Arsenal made a final.
For the record the European Cup has run since 1957/58 so everton had already failed to win it in their previous two attempts. Five of their league titles were pre WWII, I'm surprised they haven't blamed the war for their lack of domestic success since!
And blaming Heysel is just typically bitter, it's one of those unprovable claims that get flogged to death because you can't disprove it either. It's just typical of them to hide behind it
