frickin' awesome

if there was a smiley taking its hat off, i'd put it here.

do you do any art work on canvas like this?

Practically most things you see on the screen I can put on a canvas with oil paints. The same principles and technique applies with the exception of not having to wait for the layers to dry.

hmmmm interesting... so if you did something like this on canvas, would you consider selling it, and how much for?

i'm probably not alone here, but I'd be well interested in purchasing one!   :)

I first started painting on canvas with oils in 2005. I'd never used oils before, but I just knew that I could use them. My first ever oil painting was a portrait of the late Pope JP II. It turned out almost just like the photo I painted from, albeit the oils I used weren't of the best quality (low pigment and beechnut oil medium) whereas decent oils are richer and made with Linseed oil and have a really nice smell to them. From there, I've painted dozens of portraits and a few landscapes and I'm currently working on two new portraits as of now. Before all that I worked as a mural artist. I only tried using digital form of art not too long ago. My first effort with the Wacom digital tablet was the one of Gillian Anderson on my Youtube page. This was before I even got to grips with Photoshop and didn't even know how to use layers in it. That whole drawing is just one layer. If I were to go back and do that again, my work time would be cut in half. Actually, I lied - my first effort was the one of Bono. I'll show that here in this thread. It was really just a sketch at first and only took a couple of hours. Minimal effort.

Either way, having a natural ability at something like this requires little to no training or practice, apart from using oils which is more of a science than anything (how oils react over time to certain ingredients and layering, glazing etc etc) and requires a little knowledge and experience. I've found that without picking up a pen, pencil or whatever else after a few years has made no difference and have found that I'd actually improved for some strange reason. I'm relatively new to painting and to what you've seen on this forum from me as opposed to someone who has been doing it for most of their lives, yet I've been told from examples of my work that you wouldn't think it. I think nothing of it. I often look at my own work after a while and start to pick out flaws, or sometimes it just looks terrible. Like the Torres one. It's already starting to look dated to me. I can do much better. Regardless, these are just for the appreciation of others who are fellow supporters of the same team that I support. Nothing more.

I would certainly do something like this on canvas, and I plan to. And yes I would sell it. How much for? Well, that would depend, wouldn't it!  :;):

scouser 'til I die wrote:Superb mate. Hows about doing a tribute to jamie carra for his 500th game? knowing your talents i reckon it would look stunning and deserving for a legend that he is. Oh and looking forward to the torres one too :)

I'll certainly be doing one of Carragher, one of Rafa, and a few other ones of other legends. As for the Torres, one already exists of him. Just search the forum for it, or check out my other videos on Youtube and you'll see it.

It took me roughly 10 hours to do this. About 4 hours for Gerard himself and the rest on the Kop. I seriously regretted starting the Kop about half way through and rushed it a little. To be honest it didn't really matter if things were slightly off. I knew I was going to use a focus effect with Gaussian Blur so it didn't need to be that detailed, just have plenty of content and color for the correct effect. Either way, it's a good thing to leave certain areas rough looking. I think it's better that people realize that is is a piece of artwork rather than a photo otherwise what's the point? I could have just cut out a few images and and mashed them together, admittedly like I did with the badge on Gerrard's shirt simply because I wasn't working with the correct resolution to get it looking detailed enough in the first place.

2 words , Fu,cking class

Emerald u're gifted mate really brilliant piece of work , looked like a photo , i had to stare at it hard before realizing it was not
