Tom Hicks: We lined up Jurgen KlinsmannJan 14 2008

EXCLUSIVE by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

TOM Hicks and George Gillett held a secret meeting with Jurgen Klinsmann to line him up as the next manager of Liverpool FC.

Hicks today insisted the talks would not have resulted in the immediate dismissal of Rafael Benitez and that Klinsmann was only "an insurance policy."

He told the ECHO: "We attempted to negotiate an option, as an insurance policy, to have him become manager if Rafa left for Real Madrid or other clubs that were rumoured in the UK press.

"Or in case our communication spiralled out of control for some reason."

The ECHO can also reveal:

* Had Liverpool crashed out of the Champions League the club’s owners would have tried to replace Benitez.

* A deal was almost agreed for Dubai International Capital to buy a minority share in the club in the autumn, only for talks to collapse over the valuation of the club.

* Hicks is hopeful for a financial restructure and that plans for the new stadium will be released by the end of this week.

just don`t think they have the balls to come out and say:

sorry we screwed up, we took something on we know nothing about and don't know how to get areselfs out of it so we will blame everything on everyone else

not sure they will sell as it would show them up as the prats they are and that they havn't got a clue what they got in to

I hope this is not true, not for the reason of loving raffa before anyone starts but what sort of message does that send out to all involved in LFC. No wonder the players are not shinning on the pitch with all this going on. TBH if i was Raffa i would leave anyway at the end of the season as he is being showed no repect at all. While a manager is in position and doing a job these sort of things i.e linning up replacement managers should not even taking place. Fecking klinsman what makes tyhem think he would do a better job anyway. This is fecking outrageous H&G should be kicked back over the water and got rid of they are becoming the downfall of this club i hate them and all they stand for, they have no idea about football, are unable to manage finances and if i see them wearing a fecking LFC scarf again someone should choke them till there heads explode.

I was thinking the same thing as I was reading your thread... I think Rafa may just see out the rest of this season and leave us and it will be to our detriment.

These two are making LFC a laughing stock but not all the blame is down to them, they do not understand the way things are done over here.
The real villains here are RP and the old LFC board, they came out with the cr@p that they sold to the yanks instead of Dubai Int 'in the best interests of Liverpool' absolute b0llocks, it was the extra cash that interested them and the presevation of Parry's job

What kind of absolute bullsh*t is this? I cannot believe that these two :censored:

would go and look for a possible replacement manager based on a RUMOUR! This is unbelievable. I just do not know what to say. Is there absolutely no communication between Rafa and the owners of this club that the owners make decisions based on RUMOURS IN THE UK PRESS? This infuriates me.

Newsflash G&H, the UK press, like most other press throughout the world have a tendency to spread rumours that are unfounded. And then for you guys to go and make decisions based on these rumours shows how friggin' idiotic you two are.

?? No managerial club experience - just a glorious failure in a world cup when they were hosts anyway.
Slagging off previous stadium designs and then back tracking on theirs.
Spending big in the summer ? Selling big time as well!

on us again in the press, well thats not a shock. the thing is this is how most American companies work, (i worked for one in london for many years and found that we was going to be part of a takeover that would cost us our job by reading about it in the press, it was not till the deal had been done did they tell us).

As you know i feel Rafa should go but i am very happy that KlinsmannJan is not coming to the club, but for :censored:

hell yanks keep you gob shut and do this indoors and not in the press.

Yes i agree but i hold them all accountable. They really need to come out with a press statement at let all of the paying,travelling and loyal supporters here and world wide know WTF is going on at this club. We are becoming a laughing stock.
It is for this reason aswell that Raffa needs our full support. Yes we all agree that for what ever reasons it is not going well on the pitch but that aside this club has enough pride and knowledge to know when a manager is getting a raw deal and at the moment that is Raffa. He has brought success to the club and if it a choice between Raffa and yank and Spank boys then raffa gets my vote

I'm actually glad he's come out and admitted it, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's an absolutely ridiculous way of doing business.

Unless the rest of the article consists of the most beautiful backing of a manager that anybody's ever come up with, it's a huge black mark against the owners. The press are having an absolute field day at our expense, and it was all completely avoidable.
