Danny Murphy's proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur has collapsed after the White Hart Lane club confirmed they could not guarantee the Liverpool midfielder first team football.
A statement on the Spurs official website says: "We have now withdrawn from these negotiations following a meeting with the player.

"We acknowledge that a guaranteed first team place was a deciding factor in his decision and wish him well."

The talks broke down due to murphy being GREEDY!

Thing is, whether playing or not, a 4 year deal worth 25 grand a week aint a bad one is it!

Thing is, he is of limited ability, and if charlton Back out of a deal, whos gonna have him? He prob thinks charlton would be a step down.

I doubt very much he is going to Everton though, as they dont have the cash to raise 3 million.

What was that silly Robbie savage deal they were trying to pull off?  1.5 million and 500k a year or something silly like that?

believe me they dont have the cash to buy a mars bar.

show some respect. murphys been with us for 7 years and contributed a lot to the club. spurs said its cos they cant guarentee him first team football.
And what are you at. first the move is definitely not off, now its off cos murphy is greedy. make up your mind.

Murphy was also greedy in slotting the balls to the net, he was the Liverpool's MIDFIELD-TOPSCORER in EPL season 2002-2003, and second after Kewell in the last season.

Personally I liked Murphy and would have rather seen Diob cut.

08.08.2004 - Walsh 'surprised' by Murphy Spurs link

Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Paul Walsh has expressed his shock at Liverpool accepting Spurs' bid for Danny Murphy, though believes the London club will be signing an 'excellent player' should the Reds midfielder decide to leave Anfield.

Walsh made over 100 appearances for Liverpool between 1984 and 1988 before moving to White Hart Lane, where he spent his next four years, and he admits he's surprised by the prospect of Murphy making a similar move.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Walsh said: "I'm surprised that they're letting him go. I rate him as one of the better midfielders that they have in their possession."

"Unless Benitez has got a couple of other deals lined up to come after this and this is giving him the funds to fund them, then that would be the logical answer, but I'm still a little surprised because a fit and in form Danny Murphy is an excellent player."

Walsh also said that Spurs would be getting a bargain if Murphy can reproduce the form that he's often shown over the past few seasons at Liverpool.

"It's good value at £3million in this day and age, if you've got a confident and in form Danny Murphy. But thats the key to it, getting him confident and getting him playing at the top of his game. If he can do that then he'll be a great buy for them."

It's only natural for Murphy to ask for first team football. Otherwise, he would be better off here at LFC even if he is a reserve because at least we are in the CL and he doesn't have to move his family. I don't blame him one bit. :)
