No License

In my local paper today....

Man gets caught for driving without a license... £100 fine and £75 costs

Woman gets caught for watching tv without a license... £120 and £75 costs

WTF is happening to my country?  At this moment in time I'm ready to jack it all in a fuck offski.

How the fuck can this happen?

Furious

how do you need a license to watch tv?
I can understand the drivers license part, because you could injure/kill people on the road if you don't know how to drive or if you are known to be a drunk driver

Have you never been charged with being drunk in charge of a TV Joe?

We have to pay a licence to the BBC to watch tv, even if we NEVER watch BBC. Strange but true.

the bbc is funded by the tv license, not advertising revenue. therefore you don't get bombarded with adverts every 15 minutes like you do on commercial tv channels.

The guy who got caught for driving without a license is a bit thick and deserves a kick in the balls, he got off very lightly with just a fine.

The woman should have paid her license fee, you'd think she'd have been aware of the potential consequences.

Whether or not we should have to pay a license fee is besides the point. I think it can be agreed that you should be required to have a license in order to drive.

You miss the point...

Why the hell did the girl get such a large fine in the first place never mind a fine that was larger than the other toe rag driving without a license.

So not only does the girl have to pay the fine but she also has to pay the license fee... (£195 + £135.50) surely they coulda made her pay the fee and have done with it?

You see this cr@p week in week out... people getting away with small fines for serious offences (why does this get tagged as a wrong spelling?  Any chance of changing the Newkit dictionary to English ... unless I'm wrong in assuming "offenses" is an American spelling)

Sorry mate but I reckon the first part of your post is absolute bollox... why the hell did the girl get such a large fine in the first place never mind a fine that was larger than the other toe rag driving without a license.

Like I said, the guy who got caught without a drivers license got off very lightly. The girl, I would imagine, was aware of the consequences of not having a TV license. Everyone has to pay a TV license, whether that's right or wrong is besides the point. You can't have laws that go ignored without consequences. FWIW, I don't think the fine for not having a TV license was excessive, I think the punishment for driving without a license however was far, far too lenient.

Apologies.. I edited my post having read yours again.

The point being that the girl has to pay a larger fine for a very very minor and non-life threatening offence IMO.

Do you remember the days when the price used to go up at the pumps per gallon?  Now it rises per litre!

Diesel: 109.1p

It just keeps on going up and up.
