Liverpool owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have held secret talks with millionaire John Miskelly after turning to the Northern Ireland tycoon to solve their financial crisis.
Lifelong Liverpool fan Miskelly - a property magnate - tried to put together a £250million takeover consortium last year only to lose out to the American pair.
But Hicks and Gillett have gone to Miskelly after struggling to put together a £300m refinancing package, and also need to find a further £300m for their 'new Anfield' stadium project.
After failing to find a suitable refinancing package through a bank, Hicks and Gillett are investigating other options - including an outside partner or even selling their interest.

Ulsterman Miskelly has the funds to help but he would need support to put together a full consortium bid for the club.
Even as Hicks and Gillett met in New York late last night to discuss financing a new stadium and the future of manager Rafa Benitez, the Spanish coach hit out at suggestions that he could look elsewhere as the pressure grows on him.
"I want to completely commit myself to Liverpool Football Club. I do not see my future anywhere else because I do not want to go anywhere else," said Benitez.
"I want to win trophies for my club, for our fans and for the people - and I still believe we can do this.
"There has been so much improvement here over the last couple of seasons and I believe there is still a lot more to come.
"The squad is now the best it has been since I first came here and we have many young players who are only going to get better.
"All I can say is that I want to be here this summer... and many other summers after that."

Having said that, the prejudice on here against Klinsmann is really laughable. He single handedly revolutionalized the German national team from a boring long ball team to a team that can go toe to toe against argentina and italy and comfortably beat portugal. He has time and again proven his critics wrong whether he was as a player at spurs where he won the footballer of the year or whether he was the national coach of Germany where even the Kaiser, his staunchest critic, asked him to stay on as Germany coach. Pointing out that he doesn't have club experience is understandable.... but criticising him for being a diver and other ridiculous claims is laughable. Pls study how germany played before he took over and how they played at the world cup. I don't believe one can be as narrow-minded as this... I for one would want klinsmann instead of mourinho... I can never accept someone who treated Liverpool FC with disdain as our manager... that mourinho basically thought that LFC isI can never accept him.... especially not if he comes in and now say how what he said against LFC was just because of competition or something...
I think a lot of the 'prejudice' against Klinsmann is based purely on the fact that he's never managed a club side, only has one managerial position under his belt and quite frankly lacks the experience that modern day club management requires.
I agree that the common conception is that he rejuvenated the German national side but this is tempered by the fact that it was in a competition in their own backyard. There are many examples of being the hosts of a competition improves a teams abilities - South Korea(2002), Portugal(2004), England (1996).
Managerial wise a perfect example of this is Frank Rikjaard. Holland had a decent run during Euro 2000 under his guidance but when he left and took his first club job at Sparta Rotterdam they were RELEGATED. Ok he's had success at Barcelona but in his first six months he came very, very close to losing his job. His record since then has been decent but considering the options at his disposal I could've probably done just as well. His managerial deficiencies are being hi lighted now all too glaringly and I can see Klinsmann being just the same.
You've gotta ask do you really want to see Liverpool FC used as the proving ground for Klinsmann as a manager based solely on him being a good player years ago?
Personally I shudder at the thought of him being given the reins and I fear he could set us back years.
I have to agree with rushie here.....I don't have any problems with Klinsman in terms of diving or anything like that and he MIGHT be a great manager one day but he has never managed a club, let alone a club in top tier of European Club Football. I also agree that any passionate countryman with half a football brain can lead a national side to an internatinal tournament final on home soil. I know he did a good job tactically and they played nice football but it is absolutely irrelevant when it comes to the day to day running of a top club side.
Despite some recent mistakes I think Rafa should be supported for the rest of this and next season when any further review can take place....if, and ONLY if there is a top CLUB manager available then should we even consider getting rid of Rafa if it is deemed he cannot take us to Premiership glory.
